Would love to have this in 1/400 but I can see why its difficult for producers with so few livery options.

But what a fantastic, charismatic aircraft.

I still wonder why Herpa did not one in 1/400. They made it in 1/500 and a Tu-95 in 1/200....

Too bad it wasn't a success in other east european countries such as the former CSSR, Poland or Bulgaria. Would have loved an Aviogenex aswell, but they never had any longhaul aircraft so more wishful thinking here.

Yeah agree - surprised Herpa didnt produce it in 1/400, same with the Tu134 though hopefully Panda are now doing this.

I would love a Tu114 and wish I had seen one in real life.

Same here, the Tu-114 must have been an impressive plane being next to. Just like the Il-62. I had the opportunity to get on the tarmac for spotting at HAJ/EDDV in the mid/late 90s when i was doing a practical. There were a lot of former USSR flights - highlights were Il-86 and 62 a couple of times. Crews even invited you to get into the plane to take some shots - oh well, good old times gone by….

Cool Re: TU-114A - the "BIG" prop

I attended a school in Knevichi as a child. It was quite close to the approach/departure path for the airport. I can clearly remember hearing & seeing these amazing machines flying in and out of the airport.

You would hear a low, deep booming grumble even when it was still well out of sight. The noise was unforgettable. It still makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.

On take off they were even louder if that was possible. As they went past, the prop sound shifted quite noticeably and the jet exhaust noise became clearer. Ty-95, 142 and Antei sound pretty much the same unsurprisingly.

This video, despite being a modern dub, captures the sound very well.

Go to 1.00 minute and crank up your speakers. Try to watch that first take-off only once.

I don't understand the caption in the OP. The Ty-114 did wear the 1973 unified Aeroflot colour scheme in service although not for too long.

Now if you want a what if, what about this?

I never saw a 'live' Tu-114, but travelled to Moscow in 1997 and saw two of them - the prototype in the Monino Museum collection and also there was one on a roundabout at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport in the final scheme for the type. Very sad as it has since been scrapped!

Yes, that was an outrage that sparked quite widespread resentment among Russian aviation enthusiasts.
However, in the criminal kleptocracy that Russia became after the fall of the Soviet Union the cash value of the scrap was sufficient inducement to the unscrupulous 'developers' to seek yet another opportunity to line their pockets.

One day I hope to to a trip to Moscow to go to the Morino Air Museum, where the last remaining Tu114 lives.

This plane would still have problem flying into a lot of airports nowadays as the ground to door height is over 18ft. You would need to fly into an airport for A380 to have airbridge that high.
