Default Models of aircraft ordered, but never delivered

Wondering about the thought of collecting models made of airliners ordered by an airline, but subsequently cancelled--such as the 1:200 Phoenix Virgin Atlantic A380. Virgin kept postponing A380 delivery ad nauseam until they finally officially killed the deal earlier this year.

Not really a fantasy model as they were truly on order, just never made it to delivery. Is that a different classification of collecting?

I suppose at the end of the day, buy what you like.

Hence building a nice collection of 1/200 Concordes. Only Lufthansa, MEA, Qantas to go.

Whether ordered or not, in my book, any model released of an airliner that hasn't actually rolled out of the factory in real life is a fantasy model. I find it annoying that certain manufacturers try to beat the competition by making a model as soon as the real thing is ordered, only to find the reg. is wrong or worse the airline has changed livery.

I agree with Adrian but I do love my three fantasy Qantas models in 1/400.

I tend to hold off on ordering models released before the real aircraft is delivered unless the registration is real. InFlight made the American Airlines A350-900 before any were delivered but AA's A350 order has since cancelled

Yeah I jumped the gun with a Virgin Atlantic Airbus A380. It's cool looking, but I'm going to sell it.

I would love to have a Qantas Concorde. I think someone should make the full set of launch liveries.

Was qantas looking at the DC10 or is that a true 'fantasy'?

I think one of the most sought after fantasy model at the time was the 1:200 Phoenix Alitalia B787-8 Ferrari livery. Not sure if it still is or not.
