HI,

which database is it (DB2, IMS, etc.)?
Current Admin or any IT specialist cannot fix it?

For old technology there are for sure also some "old" experts available around the world.
The disadvantage is to find them but the advantage is that they should be all retired now and so having time to do such jobs.
It is always only a question about costs and time.

An admin or a database expert who is doing database repair/modification also familiar with diecast collecting or a collector himself would be preferable than a pure technician as very often the technicians are working out different than the "customer" is requiring.

I am wondering that there was never a crowdfunding initiative for a repair of this database. I do not know how many users are currently "active", a user who have not been logged in here for 5-10 years could/should be deleted anyway as also usual for e.g. Gmx or PayPal accounts.
Less data would be more easily to fix than huge data with all the links and referring points.

If many/most members here will purchase one or some models less a year for using this money for a new/working database and/or accept having not the actual forum here for a month or longer - as for the time being fixed it could not be online I think - is another question which I have not seen in the last year when I registered here.

When I started to create my collection I saw that I cannot see my collection in detail - only number of models and estimated value - and as I am not able to delete the 6 added models (Summary-requested URL not found on this server) I asked our Admin to delete them but he is also not able or willing to do.

Like me also most of the new users do not know before about the database problems when register at this forum.

To live with it for some more years or we all want a change which will take some money of course and some time for being "offline"

Regards, Wolfgang

its a sad fact Wolfgang admin won't spend a penny more than necessary on this forum! we were told on another section a 'NEW' or new updated forum was coming. ALAS, months and months later they have absolutely no idea when!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

most members here now use the Waffle's DIMA database. which is same as this DB and updated regularly. waffle used to own this forum years and years ago.

Hi,

DiMA is used mainly for the database even also there are many, many models not inserted and some not correct (aircraft type, registration, etc.) but the forum there is "in a sleeping modus" with usually some announcements for new releases and some selling/wanted posts.

This forum is used for a lot of different discussion topics, sales, etc. with no working database behind.

This is strange as many/most users are registered on both.

Would be nice to have one day one "active/living" forum with a complete and working database behind.

Wondering why also wings900.com is still operating as it is operating in the same modus like here. There should have been a migration of these 2 sites.
For advertising/sponsoring it is also more interesting to have e.g. 500 visits per day on one site and not 250 on 2 different sites.

Regards, Wolfgang

Wolfgang - I like your thoughts and it seems as if you may have some knowledge of databases. If I correctly estimate your abilities, might you jump in and have a go at upgrading DA.C's model database? My guess is that you would be a very welcome addition to the team of moderators, and once the database was up and running, you could step away - not a long term commitment. Re-reading your previous post: "..as for the time being fixed it could not be online I think." Maybe my suggestion is totally impractical? Just some meanderings of an old member.

Vienna is a perfect city, and the Tirol region is wonderful. Salzburg never excited me.

Over, Doug Seeley

Hi Doug,

although I was a COBOL programer for DB2 database for some years I do not think that I have the skills for doing it technically.
As changing very soon to quality management (test center) and IT organization and project management in telecommunication and banking business I would be only able to "support"/"accompany" such a project.
I am out of this business since 15 years as migration of companies and banking systems
caused a lot of job cuts also here in Austria.

Maybe I can get a PM with technical details (interface, database, hardware) to see if I know an "old expert" for (this) old technology but I think here are some more members with either technical skills or having a big social network for finding the expert(s) we would need for it.

For sure it will take some money but first we have to get an overview about actual technical situation to get an idea how the technical problems could get solved.
My personal opinion is not to build up a completely new interface/database but only to get the old one running properly again.

Regards, Wolfgang
