Question Where is everything?????

I posted a sale of my collection a few days ago.

Today.....
  • the post itself is gone along with all the replies.
  • no matter what I did, few people could access the link I included (to the my database of models) up to now and they sure won't be able to.
  • I received several PMs... now they're gone
  • I sent several PMs... also gone.
  • Nothing in any of my databases. Apparently I have 0 models!
  • I can't find anyone else's collection database.

Something's wrong here or is it just me? Inquiring minds want to know!
Dave (confused enough as it is)

Hmm something terribly is wrong with the ssite either a backup gone wrong or an update that contained the incorrect files that overwritten the new files and this being the result worst case we got hacked and they are just wiping parts of the site.

Here the old thread since you are not the only one dboyd001
http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/...04#post2628704

It seems this forum software is pretty outdated, 2CPU.com that I am moderator of; it also uses the same kind of forum software which dates back from September 05, 1999.

HEMI the 2CPU admin & our crew (me included) decided to lock down the site and that crew members would manually add new members via their email and user names, it's more work but it is a more secure way, just an idea tho.

The database seems like they're being backed up right now. We've been moving all of our sites to a new server, there's a lot of distruptence.

When did you guys notice all of this?

I know that this is missing. are there other pages?

I believe it's affected the entire forum, everything has gone back to May 2018. Probably first noticed it when this thread was started

Except for one thread that was started earlier today in the military section. This one: F-15C HM Desert Flanker Scheme

Well I decided wait it off after all the updates have passed and that everything has been restored, if proper backups were made of the latest posted material.

But for now I shall stay at the AMCC (Aircraft Model Collecting Community) my own aircraft modeling community at FB, DA.C member are more than welcome
https://www.facebook.com/groups/amcc28/

Rock on.

Hi all - it appears that the admins here are unwilling to make any statement concerning the giant cockup that has seen the past few months worth of content deleted sitewide! I have spoken via PM with the admin and this is what they have said:

Me:
It appears everything on the site since May 10 has been deleted. I assume a backup or something has gone wrong. Are you aware of this and doing anything about it? Is everything lost?

VS-Admin
Hey there,

We have been migrating our sites over to Google Cloud in order to help with outages and site speed, as well as added security. While doing this change, we are also converting the site to https. which you can read more about here https://techterms.com/definition/https

You may have noticed these changes may be causing some site issues. We are working with Google and VB to help us find long term solutions to these issues instead of bandage fixes and patches that seem to break more than they repair.

We apologize for any inconvenience, and hope to have the forums back up and running normally ASAP.

Yung

Me:
I appreciate your reply Yung but this is shambolic and is seriously undermining the longevity of the site. It has been nearly a day since this has gone on and it hasn't been corrected. I work for a software dev company so I know how irregular this is and a simple migration should not be making this mess. Please get it sorted.

VS-Admin

Hi,

I sent this to our dev to inspect. Thanks for pointing this out.

Lee

So it appears they have barely noticed what they've done accidentally and don't have a plan to restore the lost content. If I were anyone here I would not bother posting anything at all since who knows what'll happen to it. Will they restore the lost content? How will they combine newly posted stuff with the lost content if they do? What is to stop it happening again?

What a farce - it is no wonder that Facebook is eating these forums for breakfast. I will stop posting new content for a while until it becomes obvious what is happening.

Better hope their server wasn't running a RAID 0 array if one of the HDD's crashed all data will be lost, other possibility is that well this forum software dates back to the year 1999, making such changes could of made data go corrupt due to incompatibility issues.

Also why @ 2CPU community we never bothered to make such a change at first hand.
An other possibility is that they made no backup at all and that is never a smart thing to do when running any kind of website.

Backs should be made in a daily basis by the server it's self if it is setup to do so.
either poor administration or hardware failures, or both, I still hope this problem will get sorted out, looks like we lost over 60% of our data, mainly all the new posts from the past half year are gone and that only happens when updates break things.

Worst comes to worst I did have all my collection in a database on my computer and a flash drive. Next time I sell I'll refer to my own data. As more than a week has passed, not hopeful on much being restored if any ever is.
..... Be ready for another sale, Wings 900 not required.

This reminds me of the Captive Bred reptile keeper's forum I used to be on, except in that case we lost the whole forum- it crashed a couple of years ago, & we never got it back. The forum switched servers, & the owner/admin of CB forgot to move the forum onto the new server before the old one got turned off with the forum stranded on it.

I never got how this Wings 900 thing worked I always stuck to Bilder hochladen - abload.de as I have my private gallery of all my varied collections there and that works just fine.

But I am going to repost things I posted some time ago, gladly I didn't lose that much, but I am sorry for those that did, just gonna see if my posts remain and if they do?, Well then it's safe for others to post I guess.

Anyways I made my repost here:
https://www.diecastaircraftforum.com...ml#post2629588

see how it goes

DA.C is to me the best aircraft modeling forum I found not one I plan on giving up due to some backup failure, mistakes happen in life I plan on accepting it and moving on

All we need is just an official statement so we all know where we stand. Fair enough if no fix is coming and not a problem if they say that. Also perfectly fine to say - we're working on a fix and more details to follow as soon as the tech guys have done their thing.

As it is, we have no idea what's going on and if it's ok or not to post. Particularly if one wants to do a pictorial post that can take some effort to put together and quite annoying to have to do it all again because a fix went in without any notification.

Yeaps well said @ Eagle Flyer.

If I was owner of the site I would do an auto DM to all the members so they are all notified on any upcoming changes and I would make sure I run a RAID 1 configuration so if a hard drive or SSD fails none of the backup is lost.

Server management is apiece of pie if you know what you are doing.
But sadly it is what it is, I now make backups with text files so if all is lost I can always repost, it's slightly more work but always best to be prepared.

Hey guys,

Sorry for the lack of response here. We're swamped with tickets at the moment. Our tech is looking into the issues going on with the site, unfortunately, we're having a bunch of issues on other sites so our tech team are flat out. We'll update you as soon as we know more.

It looks like when we moved the servers over, we missed the posts from the dates mention so our tech will try a database re-sync and if it doesn't work, we'll need to get the developer to reassign IDs to the missing posts.

It is designed to copy over anything with an ID that doesn't already exist. For example, a post I made might have been ID 100 and that was misplaced through migration. Since then, a post you made has been given ID 100. When tech syncs everything back up, my post will be held back as a "duplicate". Tech will then go through those duplicates, and reassign them to ID numbers that are not existing on the site as it stands on this server. It is a less than ideal process as it is largely manual in the reassignments and takes a long time, but tech will get this sorted out as soon as they can.

Ah okay well take your time bud, running a large place like this is just hard as it is, imo you guys have done a great job keeping this place alive and as for the mistakes they happen everywhere, all good

As a side not, if you think you guys needs more mods on here, start a new thread about it, and we can look into getting some on

We are also actively looking at the sync issues that have been plaguing the site. We tried re-syncs but they just fix it temporary. So we have our chief architect looking into it.
