Attention - Password and Security Update
 

Hello all,

Over the next few days we will be implementing some changes to our forum password strength and password expiration policies. To make sure you continue having the best experience possible on the community, we regularly monitor the site and the Internet to keep everyone's account information safe. We've recently become aware of a potential risk to some accounts coming from outside of this community. Just to be safe, we are implementing the following changes to improve security even further:

1) We are asking everyone to change their passwords (and will force a one time reset). Along with every user on the forum, new passwords will need to be more complex, and can't be simple words (sorry, you can't have "fluffy" as your password anymore!). Please use a password unique to this community. Reusing passwords can expose your account indirectly when other websites (Twitter, Linkedin, Badoo, etc) are compromised; and

2) Your passwords will expire on a 365 day basis. When you login on the 366th day, you will have to change it.

We'll also be sending out an email to users to let them know about the changes, in upcoming weeks.

You will receive an email from the forum in the next few days to prompt you to change your password. 365 days after that you will have to change your password again unless you change it again before 365.

This don't make no sense at all, I mean I change my password all the time everywhere, on here, eBay, my credit card accounts etc, etc... But why change your username as well, for example eBay don't let you change your user name, you have it as long as you have your account, they only want you to change your password so often for protection...

Hey guys, this was just human error, nothing is going to force you to change your usernames. Passwords yes, usernames no.

G'day,

I would like to add that as Super Moderator on DA.C, I do from time to time try and contact members directly via email. What I have found is most members email addresses are NOT correct as noted in their membership details.

If you are a member and your email address that you joined DA.C with is no longer applicable, now is the time to update your details or face the certain outcome of NOT receiving any email and then having your membership cancelled. Furthermore, when you go to re-join, you won't be able to use your old Username.

So my advice to all current members is to update your Profile in USER CONTROL SETTINGS to a current email address that you use regularly. Otherwise it's bye bye to you in a short while.

That was a tough one for me! At least 10 characters, capital letters, lower case letters, numbers, symbols, what else? My password is like a whole sentence now. I hope I can remember it in my old age.

10 characters + the use of a symbol is a bit extreme. Any chance of making the number of characters shorter???

I was thinking the same thing. A little overkill here mods / admins. Uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols, a minimum of 10! This is a toy model forum not a financial institution. The pw for this forum is now more complicated than my bank, paypal and credit card accounts.

My user ID (r3500vdp) is no longer accessable. Password was invalidated but did not get any email or notification to reset it. Starting out again fresh with the new ID but not pleased at all about it. Alerted administrators but no response received.

I had the exact same problem. When I tried to re-register it said user name too short. So like you had to start all over. So much for only having to change your password.

I think some may have to change their user names IF your CURRENT name is LESS than 10 letters?? mine was ok, but mark's was only 3 letters.

might also SUGGEST ANY members that DO change their name, put their OLD name underneath their header! so people can still see who you originally were.

They mentioned it one this thread, but they then deleted the post, and it was just human error that they said we have to change our users, and we can keep our old ones. So much for that. :rolleyes:

I guess if you have given C Card info or Paypal info via p.m. to another DAC member it could be an issue

Yes I also saw the apology from the mod for initially saying the username would need changing for everyone. However as Robertjon pointed out, it would appear some will need to change as their username is too short for the new format. Others are fine if their name already have the required number of characters.

That's a pretty late school year here in the states. I teach youngin's your age so I'm on a perpetual school year calendar :D Enjoy it while you can!

I'm back in business with the account. I received an email for Dayle (many thanks) to reset my password. Thanks to admin and Lou as well for working through this :)

I am glad you got your account back! Usually, school for us ends at June 25 - 28, but this year the last day is 30th. But it makes up for the extra long summer - we go back to school September 5th, I think.
