Default Does Paint Chip Affect Longevity

Hello All!

I recently received a model from a certain big retailer and the tail was detached. After reinserting the tail I noticed two small paint chips, one near the join between the fuselage and tail and one near the APU. Will these chips affect the metal in anyway underneath and/or could they expand thus taking off more paint in the process and further damaging the model? Should I consider an exchange?

If it's white, small nicks you can cover them with Sharpies. The white one is actually some kind of paint.

It is a white chip and I can see the metal of the model underneath. It is a very small chip.

Try the Sharpie then. I don't think exposed metal should be a problem.

Many models despite having a stand with protective pad still can chip the fuselage paint. Never had any issues with the metal.

I suppose the chip could get bigger if it keeps getting rubbed on, but I doubt it will have any effect on the metal underneath. Most of the time if I have chips right along a seam that aren't immediately noticeable when you have the model on display, then I don't worry about it. But if your eye always goes to them then you could ask for an exchange. It may be luck of the draw as to getting a better one, and as we've explored in multiple threads now, no manufacturer is immune from having these issues.

Should I put a single layer of clear after doing the sharpie to preserve the fix?

I use the Sharpie alone for small chips.

Do you recommend any specific type of white sharpie or white permanent marker?

I've used white enamel nail polish as well. A dab on a small toothpick and then touch up the paint chip.
