Why wouldn't it be? Planes used to made of metal, not composites.

True - but look if you look at the real AA planes, the rudders arent chrome - they are grey.

, I believe some of the old jet-rudders were in fact "chromed" out the aluminum on the real aircraft. I could be wrong... But still knowing American had upgraded the engine manifolds and rudders later on... (It might have had to do with the cooling of the engines)...

Take care guys, thanks for postin the AA photos...

http://www.airliners.net/open.file/211895/M/

AA 707-320B, n/c, tail completely bare and shiny.

(Gray seems more common for the -320's, but bare obviously did exist)

::edit:: Oh hey--it's actually a photo of a -320BAdv. But I don't have the time (nor desire) to go hunting for a photo of a non-Adv one with a bare tail....

::edit again::--oh yeah, GJ's mold is a -320BAdv, not a regular -320B, so it's fine. (Which is good because of the -320C's they make--the -320C is identical to the -320BAdv asides from the cargo door, but not identical to a -320B)

Does anybody know if this livery was the one that AA used on the B707 circa 1967?

(I flew on that plane when i was 4 years old but i dont remember too much of the external details......It was my first airline flight ..LA to Toronto).

Still waiting for an incoming comment about the Chrome "Rod Of Ugliness" . . .

This one actually seems really nice. Steve Miller's "Big Ol' Jet Airliner" comes to mind when looking at this bird.

This is a beautiful release! I gather it's a CRS exclusive which translates into big bucks for us furriners, I may have to break my $50 rule and get this.
Good one GJ!

American introduced their current colors first on a Boeing 720B in 1968, but the eagle on the tails wasn't there in the first incarnation of what some called the "Patriot" livery. There was such an outcry from AA employees that the eagle was subsequently added a short time later to the livery, giving us airliner-geeks what we drool over today.

Nope! This is a regular release! AHS price $27 each, with a $3 'pre release' discount available for orders received before Nov 15th.

Got to have one, or two or three.

BUT that antenna on the tail is still horrible, you would think with AC and HW's 707 tails being so nice that GJ would follow, especially since their tail is PLASTIC!

I didn't make a "rod of ugliness" comment because a few days ago, (before we had these pics) I was going to start a thread along the lines of

"Do you think GJ improved their 707 mold, since AC's is so nice?"

With the main things being the ugly rod, pylons, and engines.

But now we see--nope! Still ugly as hell. No GJ 707's for me, no matter how "wanted" it may be. (My most-wanted 707 is a TWA twin-globe -320B---which GJ has, but is fugly--AC's is almost that, and gorgeous, so I'll buy that)

Makes me wonder about GJ sometimes. I mean--AC sold out their Western 707 QUICK, and it's not even the right type of 707. GJ has the EXACT type Western had, yet haven't made it yet... People are rabid for Western, especially o/c, yet GJ didn't make it.

A "news from Frankfurt" thread on this forum suggested 5 additional Aeroclassics 707 liverys are imminent. This wouldn't be the first occasion for GJ and AC to have coincident releases. (remember ElAl?) Hopefully Andrew will produce the "lightning bolt" theme.

I'd put my $ on that an AA 707 will "premiere" the chrome finish on an AC plane. (AA had more 707 variants than just about anybody, and in more schemes, so there's LOTS to do)

The fuselage is nice enough, but the chrome tail looks plastic. I know that it IS plastic, but the chrome makes it look TOO plastic.
And having the Aeroclassics 707 to compare it with, the GJ 707 wing looks way too thick.

I'll wait for Aeroclassics to make this one. I'd LOVE to see this in the older, red lightning bolt scheme. That'd be awesome.

Question AHS ??

Who is AHS, I see they keep advertising in the forums?
Is this allowed. I know I have mentioned my main dealer a few times, but I never see them advertising anywhere but the trader area sometimes? Also they have the AA 707 in Chrome and Polish available for pre-order lower than I have seen anywhere else?
