Default Rise of the Jetset: Air 2000's First Decade

I have been super pleased by the avalanche of British charter 757s that NG Models has been producing - and eagerly await the Ambassador from this month's announcements. Air 2000 was one of the largest UK charter airlines throughout my formative years and was a common sight at LGW. They made a real impact on the charter market with a high-end product and their first decade was very successful. This is the story of that first ten years:

P.S: I'd love an A320 in the original colours plus some later colours 757s to add to the Air 2000 representation in 1:400

Good read Richard, as a GLA local, I well remember the hullabaloo surrounding their efforts to operate to Florida directly from Glasgow and their touchdowns and departs from nearby Prestwick. This as said led to the relaxing of PIK's transatlantic gateway status which saw all the existing cross pond operators shift up the road to GLA whilst also attracting new routes from American, Continental, United and others.

I also recall Canada 3000 jets on stands there too. Nowadays EDI hosts more of these services than Glasgow which is a big shame as my local is now far less busy than it's early 90's heyday, albeit Prestwick is now reduced to just a few Ryanair services and nothing else in a passenger operations sense.

The approaching year 2000 seemed like the dawn of a brave new world at the end of the 1980's and 90's. Looking back now, and on the 18th anniversary of '9/11', I'm not sure the airline business is any better off than it was then ?

In 1995 I had booked on an Olympic Airways flight to Greece from Heathrow. When we arrived at the airport, we were told the flight had been cancelled.
They put us on a bus and took us to Birmingham Airport, where they had chartered..joy of joys....an Air 2000 757 in this scheme and the actual aircraft that NG has modelled, so I'm very pleased.
