I get what you you guys are thinking. I am guessing that Yellowknife, New Lenox & Colorado are all in the Northern hemisphere. All USA? My longest flights where always leaving the USA or UK to come home. UK trial fights start next week for project sunrise.

What Qantas is trying to achieve here is not pain and suffering. It's whole purpose is time saving and all expenses on stop overs from airport taxes hotels, transfers etc. I do totally agree with you at this time there is a limit of time spent on a aircraft. These are experimental flights. For a reason. Currently if you do the math on JFK to SYD you will see it takes five hours to fly from JFK TO LAX. Then get of the aircraft and wait for a three hour connection. Then you flight time is sixteen hours to Sydney. (This varies and is of course seasonal depending on tail or headwinds) but if you complete the math from JFK via LAX 5 hours plus three hours layover = 8 hours plus sixteen hour flight to Sydney and you have 24 hours plus. Qantas is trying to offer 19 to 20 hours

I think long flights like this are great when you travel first or business but in economy it is not doable at all. ..

I watched the segment about it on the NBC nightly news last night. They talked about more legroom in coach and removing a section of seats to make a play area for children, exercise,... If they do remove a section of seats for those activities, I can see the concept (and space) going the way of the piano bars on the upper levels of early 747s. Maybe I'm too cynical.
