Default Qantas 747-400 Inflight 200 from Europe

Hi!

After the Qantas 747-400 Inflight 200 I bought off eBay US arrived with NLG broken off and having scratched the fuselage and one engine separated, I am in search for replacement.

To save on customs and import duties and maybe also shipping, I'd prefer to buy from an EU/EEC seller this time.

Any offers?

Cheers,
Ben

Hi Ben. If this was a recent purchase, I'm pretty sure I bid on the exact same item. I'm still looking for one. Heh.

Are you returning it to the seller? If you've just started collecting Inflight 747's, it's a good idea to prepare for the worst. Aside from the scratch, yours sounds like a typical Inflight 747 arrival! Some of them actually ship with replacement nose gear in the box. My Pan Am "Clipper Fortune" arrived just as you described, minus the scratch. I swapped out the nose gear with the spare that was in the box and reattached the engine with a little glue. Good as new!

Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck finding a replacement!

That's a shame, maybe it would have made it to you in one piece. :-( But it sat somewhat loosely in the Styrofoam, I guess that could have killed it even on a shorter trip.

If it had been only the nose wheel I'd have tried to glue it back in. But I do not know how to fix the fuselage paint job. Plus there seems to be some paint chipped off where the engine pylon went AWOL.

Here are two pics. SENSITIVE VIEWERS BEWARE, GRAPHIC CONTENT OF MODEL MAYHEM!

Luckily the seller agreed to take the model back right away. I still have to see if I can somehow reclaim the tax and customs paid, but it's a start.

I also discovered this the hard way. These days, when I get a model, I immediately check it, then I cut up some plastic to wrap the fuselage before I put the model back in the box. When shipping, it's also helpful to add extra packing to keep the model from moving back and forth in the cradle.

The seller had tried to prevent excess model movement with some kitchen paper but unfortunately that didn't quite do the trick. It's just so sad about a wonderful model...

Yeah, it's disappointing. Inflight makes nice models(for the most part) but they need to rethink the packaging. It's terrible. Luckily on mine, only the engine came off and not the pylon. It was a clean break and no paint was disturbed. I wasn't as foruntate when my Inflight Eastern L1011 arrived. It was literally in pieces. The wings had detached and one somehow got stuck halfway in and halfway out. The pylon seperated one one side, damaging paint and the engine came off of the other side. The model was indeed new and there were otherwise no blemishes. I repaired it instead of sending it back to avoid the hassle. I haven't bought an Inflight L1011 since.

Hey cyhupilot,

Thanks a lot. I saw your post but want to try something less remote before.

If I fail I will get back to you but then we'd have to discuss the price.

Cheers,
Ben

I am even tempted to get a second one, but not as long as I have to get it through customs... ;-)
