DC-6B United Airlines Model

I am brand new to this forum and wanted to start off with one of my current factory model restoration projects.

Here she is, a Douglas DC-6B factory/travel agent model in United Airlines livery. The base is custom designed by me. The model will get a nose job, complete repaint, and new set of replacement decals (done!). I will try to keep a log of what I have completed on the model as I do it. I just need to clear off the work bench (room).

Looking forward to seeing progress on this project. Any idea how old the model is?

Thanks,

Re: DC-6B United Airlines Model

Thank you everyone, I can't wait to get started on restoring this beautiful DC-6B model. The model is made of wood and dates from around 1946. I am not 100% sure of the manufacturer but it does have a number stamped on the bottom like you would see on a DFM. The cool part is I have several copies of United PR photos that show this model. A very similar model can be seen in the background of this movie I found on youtube YouTube - United DC-6-"Honolulu & SFO"-1948-Part l/lll
The decals were custom made for me by a decal manufacturer as a one off set. These decals are very pricey (several hundred dollars), but they were copied directly from the remnants of the model and are high quality. PM me for info if you are seriously interested.
I have several other large factory models that I am currently restoring in various stages of completion. My favorite models are around 1/50th-1/24th scale, I especially like cut-aways.

David, that all sounds fascinating. I'm a great piston propliner fan myself, but that model is a real item of its time. It would be great to see some of the other projects that you mentioned. I know its not in the same league, but I recently acquired a 1/72 DC7C BOAC made by Atlantic, after chasing one for sometime. I would really like to have been working on airports in that era:)

David, that sounds amazing! That would be a quite a looker once done! Keep us posted. What are the other models you're currently restoring? Where did you buy the model? Welcome to the forum too!

Even though it is not an airline model, here is a before and after picture of a 6ft Northrop Snark factory model I restored. I finished it last year and I am really pleased how it turned out.

Very nice! I spot some plane seats in the background. From what airline and aircraft were they from? You have a lot of collectibles there. Very nice!
