Default Varig Boeing 707 by Miniaturas Vogelaar Brasil. 1:50

Hi all,

while cleaning the attic of my parents I found a scale model of presumably a Varig Boeing 707 by Miniaturas Vogelaar Brasil. scale 1:50.

This model belonged to a travel agency and my parents bought it when this agency closed about 40 years ago.

While doing some research I found on the bottom of the plane the text
Miniaturas Vogelaar
Rue Gomes Portinho 386
Caixa Postal. 18
Novo Hamburgo - R.G.S.
Brasil

I have added some pictures.

Can someone tell me if this is indeed a Vogelaar and if it's worth something.

Thanks,

Jules

how the heck did they keep a collector like you away from the fact they were hiding a 1/50 scale model of an airliner in the attic? Must be a big attic and parents that travel 99% of the year~

After the Douglas and Verkuyl factory models, this is the creme de la creme.
I wouldn't be surprised if it brought $1200 or more on Ebay. It is a beauty and I would pay that much for it. It doesn't get much better. Adrianus Vogelaar was a true artist (he is very old and retired now). His models are sought after worldwide. Very seldom do you see one on Ebay and yours is one of the nicest I have ever seen.

Still a beautiful model but someone (a mentor that I trust) has priced a more realistic price of $500 to $600 on it. But if you put it on Ebay, you never know......Al

That is a beautiful model of an equally beautiful airliner. What a find! I agree with others here, there would be no shortage of takers out there. However, personally I'd keep it, its in exceptional condition. The model looks as though it depicts a pre turbofan era Rolls Royce Conway powered version of the 707.

MMMM! Treasure !!!!you will have no problem selling that £500-£700 maybe even more if you get two big bidders going for it .
as long as you are prepared to post it worldwide you will have a suprize when it ends im sure,

if you just want to sell it without world posting you may want to try
aviationmodels-online.com at a fixed price with buyer collects or post just within your prefered countries.
good luck.

Probably that´s a Vogelaar. That´s a very rare model and as Kevin said you do have a treasure at your home. And as a side note it is interesting to know that all licenced models wearing VARIG colors had the same registration, PP-VRG. And never a VARIG aircraft had this registration because the airline staff thougt if they put a real aircraft registration on a model the real one (1:1) would eventually crash.

What a wonderful model ! I really love it.
I do not know about the mentioned prices. I have a perfect Varig DC-10 of Vogelaar and I bought in a shop for 300 Euros. I guess many collectors still do not see or know the great work of Vogelaar and prefer to find a new PacMin or something and are willing to pay even more ...
This is something you do not sell ... you keep it to hand it over to your grandchildren ... like a house or a Rolls-Royce !

I think someone else also posted, but this MD-11 sat just inside the *A lounge in RIO, back in 2002. Also pics of models I saw at a hobby store in Rio. I don't think the ones for sale were V's.

The MD-11 was actually not a great model, especially the people inside...

No idea, but reasonably close to ipanema, where I stayed. I remember it bent in one of the side streets a few blocks in from the beach.

The models were really crappy- not really a big fan of resins except for some of the heavier IMC or Pacmins ( but not the recent made in China crap ).

Yes, I know them. If you are patient and lucky you can find some that are, not really good looking, but okay for the price. It always depends on how old them mould was when they produced it ...

Greetings
Marc

Thanks for all the responses and messages. I will consider to put it on Ebay as I am myself not a collector (and someone else will probably appreciate it more). Will keep u updated if I decide to sell it.
