Default Bader Models - loads on eBay

Hey!

Have you seen the Bader Models on eBay?

Are these good prices? Seems odd to have so many in the box unpacked - has Bader been selling his stock room?

BADER MODELS, Collectables, Toys Games, Aircraft Non-Military items at low prices on eBay.co.uk++

What do you think? Having never had a Bader (though i've seen Gulf Air models from them) i'm not sure. I also prefer 1:100 rather than 1:144

I had two some years ago and I wasn't impressed and sold them on. To me these Bader models don't seem consistent in their accuracy and shape. That DC6 for example I would not touch with a barge pole, whereas the IL86 and CAAC 747 look really good, although the wrong scale for me. Its horses for courses with collecting these models and what I have posted here are just my own observations on the subject. Pricewise compared to the full prices that I've see advertised these values don't look too bad, but I'm no expert on these.

i rather have someone like brad or billay build one of these for me...especially in 1:144 scale. hand made models arent consistent enough especially for bader. their 747s are nice looking though.

speaking of that il86, the nose is all wrong.

Its not that bad contour wise but the flight deck window detail is not correct. The angle of the image makes it difficult to judge.

Take a look at the Bader models that is posted on another recent thread...you will see how inaccurate they are. You are much better off with a Pacmin/Atlantic.

I tend to agree but take a look at Henry Tenby's Bader made CP Britannia, stunning even if I say so myself

That CP is better than his jets - but it still has issues with the cheatline, fuselage shape (take a close look at some old photos of the real bird) - although the tail is correct, especially compared to the PSA Electra, which doesn't even resemble the real airplane empennage

What I find annoying about these baders is that they are so grossly wrong and inaccurate representation of the real plane. Even Woosters get the fuselage shape correct. I guess the hit or miss is a function of the hand crafting - quality depends on *who* is making the model at Bader.

As I've said before, if you want a specific livery, tail #, nose #, N-number etc, I think bader is a cheap way to do it. I might even order the C-152 I soloed in from Bader...but would probably send him at least 10 bullet points on what needs to be right on the model.

And I can't believe how some collectors are just so blind in not noticing glaring errors on their models.

Dora................I agree with everything you said in this post and in others that this subject was debated.

Howerver, as you know and I am sure will agree with, it's not about accuracy, it is about purpose (historic value), artistry (charm) and non reprodusibility (rarity) that we collect the models we do.

People also get upset or defensive when they are told that what they collect is anything but perfect. I am sure some people think that what we collect and the money we spend is crazy as well.

Let people collect what they want. The purpose is for enjoyment anyway. I just think the flak you get from others is unjustified but uderstandible.

Just my two cents.

I absolutely agree with you on the purpose, artistry and rarity. I only point out glaring issues when people start writing how perfect representations Baders are. And these Baders are really bad in terms of depicting the real thing - despite the fact that this is becoming their main selling point - antennae, pitot tubes, gear etc. A lot of crap stuck to the fuselage, except for in the wrong places and scale. Bader can't even get the basic fuselage shape right, which he should do before sticking all the junk on them.

Yes, absolutely, collecting is for the enjoyment - but at least realise what you've bought!

Once again, I agree with you about Bader and the so called selling points. But you will never convince somebody that what they think is beautiful actually is not. That goes for models, cars, art or somebodys wife

Hi Gents ... I too saw all the Bader models that are currently on ebay, and I came to the same conclusion that consistancy in quality is very much in short supply, which is strange.

My CPA 1/72 Britannia is very accurate and I am pleased as punch with it. But many of the models he has listed on ebay are not terribly accurate.

It seems the smaller scales sacrifice quality. His 1/72 BEA Viscount is a beauty and seems very accurate to my eyes. But the $599 price is rather steep on the pocket book.

His 1/100 747s seems a bit off in the engines and wing to body fairing areas. And his 1/200 aircraft wing thicknesses and engines seem even less accurate.

I wonder if he is actually flogging off his "customer reject" models as opposed to "back room inventory" .. ? Pray tell why would most of these models be such lesser quality and accuracy than my Britannia?

The other possible scenario is that he uses different models makes. I might have been lucky in that the fellow who built my Brit is better than the fellow(s) who built the models being flogged on ebay.

Bader recently sent out an email promotion to drum up sales, and I sent in an inquirey which was completely ignored. My friend in YYC also send in an order inquirey off the same promotion and it too was ignored.

One has to conclude that their customer service is either non-existant ... or he was just taking the piss on everyone by sending out his email promotions to get orders. All in all ... he must have flunked Marketing 101.

Hey guys, some of you maybe interested in this model...
Its not a Bader Model its a Sydney Aviation Shop Model...

I have for sale a Gulf Air A319 in 1/24 scale with gear down, this model was ordered as a display model for the recent Sydney Aviation Model Show and is now up for sale.
The model encountered some minor damage to the rear exhast behind the tail but this damage is hard to see.
The model measures 1.41 meters in length and is selling at a bargain price of just $1250.00AUD.
Included is a stainless steel tripod stand to display the model.
We normally sell these models for $1600.00 plus....

I can ship worldwide or pick up is available in Sydney Australia
There is a picture of the model on the Sydney Aviation Model Show website; www.sydneyaviationmodelshow.com.au

Looks like there wasn't exactly panicked buying of the Bader models. I did not observe a single model being sold.

Conclusion: prices were way too high.
