Default My collection

Hi friends,

I just took some photos and hope that you like. It is my little collection. I have started collecting about 18 months ago. It is not big and nothing really special, but I hope that you enjoy them as much as I do.

Greetings from Germany
Marc

Hi Marc, Very nice collection with some unusual types. I've been collecting since 1975. I have only three models with a German connection, a 1/72 Ilyushin IL62M Interflug, 1/100 Tupolev Tu134A Interflug and a 1/72 Baade 152 in prototype colours. I really like your Modern Air Convair and the Saunders ST27. Thanks for sharing

Thanks a lot guys !

@ Interflug 62M : The Saunders is very special, but it is the ST28, not the 27 ! It is the C-FYBM-X. It is the 5th ST27, but converted into a ST28. I bought it from a guy scotland who found it on a flea market. No idea about the history of that model. Under the fuselage is a sticker of the manufacturer, it says : AGM, Hospital Road, Hunslow Middlesex. Anyone knows anything about them ?

@ Garudarod : It is 1/72. All metal made by Matthys M. Verkuyl. I guess it is a DC-8-55. I purchased it from an Austrian Collector. You can say that this was the start of collection models and I really love that one very, very much. Except a very few decals lost, it is in perfect condition.

@Crownvic: The Modern Air Convair is made by Schaarschmidt, Berlin. Scale is 1:100. I was very lucky to get that one. I was searching through ebay and suddenly I saw this one. The seller just put it online with option "buy know". I was after a model like this before, seen on ebay, but I guess the seller sold it outside ebay, so I took my chance and bought it this time ! It was from a french collector. He told me that he recieved the model from an aunt, living in Florida, who worked for Modern Air as a Stewardess.
The body is of cast-metall, but the wings are of sheet metal.

Nice that you like my collection ...

Thanks for the info Marc. I had completely forgotten about the 28! I have seen that model makers address on another collectors model, I shall see if I can find out more.

Marc,

that's in fact a great collection. If you continue like that, you will soon run out of space.....

Interesting to see another AGM model. I have a Nimrod made by them and this was the only model so far I knew made by this company.
Seems they made mostly (if only?) English types. I have also no information available about this company, but the quality-standards are pretty high. Guess, this ST28 is also made from metal?

@ Garudarod : No way, I am not going to sell. It is really my favourite piece !

@ Flieger : No, it is not metal. I do not know what it is made of, but not metal, resin or plastic. Seems a little like wood, but it isn`t. Scale is 1:42, I guess ...

@ ccs757 and Santos : Yes, thats an inflatable Chavez. A friend gave to me on my visit to Venezuela in February. When you are frustrated you can punish and hit him like a punshing ball ! That friend in Venezuela works for that last independend TV Station that Chavez wanted to close ... I am not making comments on other countries politics ... but he seems to be very ... ähmmm ... special

Great collection. Who is the maker of the Dan Air Bac-111? It looks large and has landing gears which is always a nice find. A lot of vintage models in your collection which are tough to find.

@ TL925 : Actually I do not really know who made this model. I bought this model from a collector, because I was so very impressed, because I have never seen such a model, so bis (somewhat roung 1:45 scale) with gear !!! I voice in my mind said : I WANT THAT !!
Actually I want to sell it. It doesn`t really fit into my collection and I am more after vintage models. So if you or anyone else wants the BAC, send me a PM.

@ 727pilot :

Hallo Michael,

a 1:50 Verkuyl ? Lucky guy ! I would love to have that too ... I am not after Lufthansa, but Verkuyl (but soo expensive ...) Where did you get it from. A guy from the states offered me one, but when I asked for the price he never replied ...
The Ecuatoriana was a "must have". It is simply beautiful. I do not understand why they are not making more of these in the different scemes that Ecuatoriana had ...
A Air Niugini in 1:200 with the bird would be great too !!

Greetings to the German South
Marc

Here she is: Got her on German eBay two weeks ago for a reasonable price. A real big and heavy thing - nearly 1 meter long weighing more than seven kilograms.

Overall condition is OK. Some decal-loss but nothing damaged or broken off. Also you can see paint spots here and there because the previous owner had the model stored in his car garage.

Unfortunately there is no stand - but I don't know if these models ever came with a stand. My guess is: They were hung-up in Lufthansa-offices or travel agencies. Anybody have any information about this? I would also like to know how old this model possibly is. Late 1960s???

All the best!

Michael

Really a nice piece ! I have not seen it on ebay ...
Don`t restore it. It is far too good for restauration !

I am sure it had a stand. 100%, as I have seen models in that scale before.
Take a look : metal civil = 1:100
The first on the right. That was the typical Lufthansa Stand, as most modelmakers were forced by them to use that kind of stand.

Hmm..does restoration lower the value of an older model? I, myself, do not have any older items, so I am wondering if this practice is frowned upon.

Hi all,

the Verkuyl 707 in scale 1/50 has to have a similar stand as the 1/100 type, a black round aluminium drilled plate with a chromed center rod (of course larger diameter than 1/100 type).

I for myself have a totally restored Verkuyl LH 707 in scale 1/50 and ordered a replacement stand to complete it. A more or less professional metal worker can do this rather easily. You can see this model at metal civil >1:100 on bottom right.

The question if to restore a model or not is as philosphical as interesting. From value perspective the rating is not so different to antique toys, i.e. a well restored model can achieve about 50% value of a new mint one. This means, that from financial point of view a restoration is only sensible in case of really bad models, which have no big value anymore. Models with slight damages or ageing signs usually get this 50% rather easy even without restoration. So you can restore it, but it does not increase value. E.g. in case of the pictured 707 from Michael the addition of a stand is usefull, but a restoration would not be efficient for value increase.
Another story is the restoration from design or livery point of view. It may be very attractive to convert the models into liveries, which are not existing elsewhere. This could also have positive effect to value, if popular liveries are designed such as Sabena, Swissair or KLM.
Of course, in case of 1/50 models, it is impossible to get the correct decals, so this is better to be applied to smaller models, where commercial decals are available.

Marc,

if you are ever in Darmstadt and if you do not worry to buy a restored model, you can visit me. My 1/50 707 is currently ranged out due to size.

Greets

Hi Chris, thanks for the offer, but in my case it is also a question of space.
I have seen some of those 707 and some other really great large scale models, so I was standing with a measuring tape in my room and trying to find out, where to place it and trying to find out where to place the other models I would have to replace ... no way ...
Maybe if some day I see the right model, at a price that I cannot say no, I will buy some "really" large scale ... but not at the moment. I also planning a big vacation in Brazil, so I have to be carefull and keep my money together ... well, at least I have to try.

Yes, I will hang it up some day above my collection... I don't think I will restore it though, because I love the vintage feel the model has.

Marc, a guy sold the model two weeks ago on German eBay spelt wrong as "Boenig 707 Modell" - so I guess there weren't many collectors looking out for this auction.
I agree with you! I will clean the model up here and there but will leave it as it is.
You said that you're looking for Verkuyl models. Any airline? Any scale?
I thought I'd concentrate on Lufthansa because I have many fond memories of flying with this airline - and because they had many first-generation Boeing jets in their fleet. I just love the 707, 720, 727 and 737-100/200! Most of these jets are available as display-models by Mecater, Raise-Up and Verkuyl. Also, I love old tin-toy-airplanes made by German and Japanese manufacturers in Lufthansa-livery in the 1950s/1960s.

Thanks for the information, Chris! I guess, I will have a replacement-stand made for the 707. I bought a 1/50 Lufthansa 727 made by Raise-Up last year which had the original stand - but the plate was chrome not black. Would you say the 707-plate has to be black?
By the way: The thread (German: Gewinde) on the upper fuselage - is this an original feature of Verkuyl's 707? Did your model have this? And do you know if Verkuyl also made a 1/50 707 in the 1960s LH-livery? I have only seen scale 1/100 models so far.

All the best!

Michael

Boenig 707 ???? YOU LUCKY GUY !!!!
I guess there weren`t too many looking for that airplane !
I am not looking for a special airline of a special model. When I see a model, the price is good and I have the money I buy (sometimes even when I do not have the money). Some month ago I found a argentinian Guarani on eBay, made of full plastic(Aviation Photos: FMA IA-50 Guarani)
in argentinian Air Force colours. I was the only one with another buyer, but I have set my limit and stick to that ... I wish I did not ... ... an awesome model that will be hard to find again !!!
I collect every model that I consider interesting ...

I know it sometimes really hurts to spend so much cash on a model airplane - but if you know it's a rare piece of metal or resin you just have to go for it. You might never get a second chance... So far I've rarely been wrong with this approach. I could have kicked myself a few times for paying so much money, especially with old travel-agent's display models - but in the long-run I must say I'm glad I bought them. These things are my only hobby, I like to display them in my house and I'm happy every time they come into my sight.

The stand of the Verkuyl has to be black. The Raise Ups of same scale are confirmed to be chromed, that's true. They are different.

I do not think, that Verkuyl did 707's in the earlier 60's delivery, independently on scale. Lufthansa changed their livery after getting the 747, 727 and 737 (1969) and that should be also the time, when the cooperation with Verkuyl started. The Verkuyl 1/100 LH 707 as well as the 727 has usually still the "half egg" on the tailfin used during the transition period, while I know the (later) 1/50 scale 707 only with "full egg".
The Raise Up LH 707 was made earlier, so it's the old 60's livery.

The hole on top of the body is not original, even though many models have it. My one had it as well, when I recieved it. Due to the large size, the ceiling was the only chance to mount such models and many owners drilled such hole into top of fuselage for this purpose.
Ii is possible to close this hole with a plastic or alu-bolt (do not use iron or steel !!!!!) and to re-paint it white after application with putty. White and black are the only colours, which allow a "repair-paint". If done well, it will look better than the hole.

Unfortunately this is not my only hobby : I have hundreds of brochures and customer magazines of airplane manufacturer that I collect (some very rare pieces of the HansaJet and the VFW614). I am also a plane spotter, last year I have bought a EOS400D and a good lens, so that is a lot of money, too. I also love to travel: I have been to Mexico 4 times in 3 years, in January I have been to Venezuela and in October I want to go to Brazil ... all not last minute ... so sometimes I have to be carefull and cannot buy everything I want

Hey guys!
I´m new here and it would be kind of you, if you answer me some questions!
I have a Scale Model, produced by Matthijs Verkuyl in Holland.
Its name is "Hansa Jet D- Clou"
Can you say me, how much does it cost?
Maybe you collect it and offer me a good price

Here is a picture of it:
