Just curious how everyone got started on this scale - DA.C

Default Just curious how everyone got started on this scale

As the topic states what got you started? The reason I’m asking is because I just got my first 1:250. The Continental 737-800. I figured id get it since I’ve flown on countless Continental 737-800's. To make a long story short, I fell in love. I know 1:400 will still remain my top focus, and 1:250 lacks many new releases but I wont think twice about buying another one.

Well, for me, I was hooked at first sight. This scale seems perfect for display and detail. I love the GJ line, and wish the other top names in the business would follow suit, but as you said, 1/250 scale lacks many new releases. Maybe the rarity of releases will make them a valuable asset in the future, maybe not. I like 1/400 scale, too, but 1/250 got me into the hobby in the first place.

I liked the landing gear that folds up in the plane. Like on the MD-80. Especially riding on one and seeing them at ORD all the time from Delta American, and charter ones too at other airports. I like the MD-80 and these are the only diecast ones I liked too. Besides the 737 too they make. It's all about the gear.

though its unfortunate the 250 scale has not become widely accepted as its 400 and 200 scale brothers...

It was originally developed to compliment the Aero Mini lineup....

For me it was the lack of MD-80s in 1/400 and even 1/200.

Seeing the TW Wings of Pride a/c basically got me into this scale. The AA MD-80 helped to. Everything else has just been because, well, they look really good. I echo the sentiments of the collector above who notes the detail. It's a good looking scale.

The landing gear detail helps too!

For me it was the aero mini series! I still have big hopes for the DC-8.

For me it was lack of choice. My first 1:250's were the original UK made Woosters back in 1989. Thats all I recall being available at the time. I remember going into this shop in London and going gaga over all the variety they had. I walked out with a Virgin 742, ANZ 742, SV 743, BA 742, Caledonian 742, Air Liberte A300, SV A300, TG 744 and El Al Cargo 742F. Still got em.

I only have one 1:250...a KLM B744. In fact I only had a MH B772 in the 1:500 scale and then this KL 1:250, which was a gift. I was planning to get some more in the 1:250 scale, but a friend of mine gave me a 1:200 EK 773 (gearless) which followed with a EK A345 and then from there it was just 1:200s....So I never really had more than one 1:250, but it was the first or second aircraft I ever owned, and was also my last in that scale.
