Default How do you restore a model?

Hi folks! I have always wondered how you manage to restore a model in bad condition to new quality? Is it hard? Do you send the model to a special craftsman who makes the paintings?

One big question to me has been how you mange to produce the decales? I have heard that some aricraftenthusiast print the decales on some special paper? What kind of printingpaper do you need to make decales in the best quality for a restore?

I admit that I don´t have a clue about this things...so I would be very happy if someone could tell me more about it! :-)

Cheers!

To do a great job (which all of them deserve) yes it is very difficult and time consuming, there are people that specialize in restoration work, however most of them only take planes from a certain clientele. The decal paper needed to print your own decals can be obtained at you local hobby store, you will need a ink jet printer at the minimum and a color laser jet preferably. Be prepare to do plenty of research for you project and also be prepared for scrutiny when you post a pic of it since most true collectors can spot a bad restore right off the bat. Hope this helps

When you like to know a little bit more on model restorations and I suppose you mean obsolete models or the bigger desktop ones, then the following sites (and their links) are interesting:

www.dc-8jet.com
www.aviationmodels-online.com
www.arifer.tk
www.aircraftresourcecenter.com

good luck with your projects
