Air Canada Collector

Really looking forward to the journey I am undertaking with this rare beauty, she just landed here within the last few days. Gary Field will be crafting me a Raise Up replica stand. She will be re-decaled as an Air Afrique DC-8 with original Douglas decals.

Amazing how there is absolutely nothing bent, warped, droopy or untrue on a 36 inch long metal model 60 some years old. The engines are all mounted on the pylons like the Rock of Gibraltar. With some effort, I can just barely slip a sheet of paper into the slots between the wings and fuselage roots, that is how tight the tolerances are! She may not be as precise as a DFM or Verkuyl, but every bit as lovely. What a shame this kind of craftsmanship is no longer. Any thoughts, tips or suggestions on the restoration process would be appreciated.

I always enjoy seeing these restoration projects. That model is a real survivor and deserves some real TLC. The Air Afrique DC8s were real ‘lookers’ in their day. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

When I saw the reg. #TU-TCA on this Air Afrique livery, being a Trans Canada Airlines nut, I took it as a sign from God that this was the right livery choice. .
