Default British Airways.... 100 years

When I saw this set advertised on ARD website I knew it was a must have, especially since I am an over the top BA fan.. each coin has its own plastic protective cover that can be opened to reveal the coin. I was impressed with the size, the weight and the detail of the coins..

I highly recommend this set...
Key chain was a separate purchase not included ..

That’s a very nice acquisition Russ. The coloured artwork is very appealing. I reckon they’ll certainly increase in value over time.

Quit bragging! ...Oh Oh, I had to read the entire thread to see what you were referring to!

Nice (BA) set Russ! Keep those covers on or they will tarnish quicker than a first release G200 American MD!

I think that it is fair to say that British Airways was created on 31 March 1974.

BA is 46 and will be 47 next year.

I agree BA is not 100 years old yet, only KLM, Avianca are that old and Qantas will be 100 this year!!

So if BA is not 100 years old, in the UK can you at least buy a pint with a BA coin?

At least they have the coins ready for 2073 with the iconic 747 on them, which will be extict by then.
Nevertheless a nicely made set.

If you add up all the airlines that grandfathered BA you get 100 years, or 101 as it is now. But that's like me saying I'm 100 because my grandfather would be 100 (or thereabouts) by now.

British Airways as we know was indeed created in 1973 and born in 1974. At the end of the day I don't mind which version people choose to respect, for me though I'm looking forward to the 50th anniversary in 2024, but I'll be surprised if they bother marking the occasion in any way.

Incidentally, the longest serving "same name" airline in the UK, is currently Loganair, who have operated without merger or rebranding to another name, since 1962. They'll be marking 60 years in 2022. I dare say there will be no commemorative coin set released though. Maybe a sticker on the nose and a few plastic writing pens handed out, lol.
