Default Gulfstream

Spent a long time looking for one of these. Found this one on eBay a year or so ago. 1/48 Grumman Gulfstream 1 made by Executive Display Models. The real thing was operated back in the early 80s, by an airline called Peregrine Air Services based in Aberdeen, on behalf of the Post Office for their then new Datapost priority mail service.

I have a very special place in my heart for the G-159.

In August, 1985, I was an 9 year-old little Metal Head kid with a kick-a$$ mullet. My dad took my older brother and I to see Motley Crue at the old Salt Palace here in Salt Lake for their "Theater of Pain" tour. Since my uncle (who was a charter pilot with a local 135 outfit) knew the pilots for Motley Crue, we were told to leave the concert 15 early and come straight to Salt Lake Jet Center to meet the band.

When we arrived in the lobby, we met the pilots and were escorted out to their GI for a quick tour. While onboard, the band showed up earlier than expected and boarded while we were still on. Got to meet the band for about 3 minutes and I'll never forget Tommy Lee saying "Look at these little f%^$ing rocker dudes!" to me and my 12 year-old brother! Will never forget that night.

The GI seemed to be the "Band Plane" of choice in the mid 80's to early 90's. Bon Jovi, Metallica, Fleetwood Mac, etc...

I was invited to fly on a G-1 back in 1989 from Opa Locka Florida to Orlando and back same day. what a fun ride listening to those Rolls Royce Dart engines was unlike anything out there. It belonged to the Quiet Nacelle corporation that made DC-8 hushkits...

That’s a great story, and a lovely memory to have. I’d no idea that the G1 was involved in flying bands about.

Back in the 80s I once ‘scrounged’ a ride on a post maintenance test flight of a G1 which belonged to the Ford motor company. This included an inflight single engine shut down and restart. Happy memories

I thought the same. I have to admit that the day I saw this on eBay, I’d made up my mind that this model was going to be mine. I’d been looking for a model of the G1 for a very long time. For me, the fact it was an Executive Display Models one, and it being in 1/48 scale was an added bonus.
