Default 1:72 B737-200 Model Kits Coming Soon

Here are some teaser photos of the updated model from the other thread which has been retooled to be offered as a 1:72 resin kit, rather than a 1:100 diecast product line, which fell through earlier this year due to the other party backing out.

The master pattern will be sent out to be professionally tooled before the end of next month, and it shouldn't be long after that before kits become available. This is only the beginning of hopefully a successful line of large scale, extremely accurate and highly detailed models which should please even the most picky of the rivet-counters. The price will be competitive with the BPK line of 737 kits, and 40% cheaper than the Authentic Airliners 1/72 727 series. Like the latter, these kits will feature solid resin fuselages and wings so novice builders should have no real problems with assembly.

I'll have a website up shortly and more detailed info for those that are interested. Also, I'll be looking to give a free kit to a select few "test pilots" who will assemble the very first kits, give their feedback and share photographs of the build to help showcase the model. (Paging Brad Shinn ). If that's something you'd be interested in, shoot me a PM!

It should be noted that these are renders of the 3D model, and not actual photographs. Zoom in and enjoy!

Hey, this is really great! I'm no kit builder myself, but I love following this realm of the hobby.

Too bad the 1:100 diecast line fell through. Can you say a bit more about it? I would have been a customer for sure!

It may not be completely dead in the water, so I don't want to say too much. I had a partner who is extremely well known in the diecast world, and we were very close to having the mold machined over in China. But following some minor disagreements about mold ownership and other tidbits he backed out. The model was(and still is) 100% done and ready to be molded for diecast production. But I can't afford the $30K to do the diecast mold myself, nor do I have any other connections for producing it, so it's a shame!

Interesting! Thanks for the insight. Wishing you the best of luck, and here's to hoping the 1:100 diecast product will still come to fruition. I believe the market is overdue for something of that nature.

I sincerely wish you well with the venture. Personally I think you’re onto a winner!

Neil.

I think you're right. I don't know if widebodys are feasible yet but the narrowbodys definitely are. The 1/100 737 would still be a slight bit smaller than a 1/200 747 so I imagine they could set up the tampo printers to accept them as well.

Cheers Neil. It's been a fun project so far, but I cant wait to move onto something other than a 737-200.

Just FYI, I brought this to Brad Shinn's attention. He owes me a build, and I'm hoping to make it this.

Cool, thanks! I'll definitely send him a kit if he agrees. I think he's definitely the best in the biz.

In other news, I've got a website and Facebook up for those who are interested in following my endeavor. I'm not accepting orders until the master pattern and mold are done but that won't be long.
