Default Question about Pacmin Federall Express MD11 broken

Hi all,

Earlier this week i bought a this beautiful model but, there is a default on the rear tailwing. It doesn’t match that good so i removed it with a bit of pressure

Now i’m gonna try to fix it but first, here’s my question:
- are the rear wings fixed on a original Pacmin model or do they come apart like the front wings? (Can’t move the other side rear wing)
- does it look like the seller tried to fix it already this way?

Many thanks for your help, hope my English is ok because i live in Belgium

Hi, and welcome to the forum. That’s a nice model you’ve got. In my own experience with Pacmin I’ve found that some of their models have been made with the aft stabs fixed, but in the majority of the Pacmins I have, the models arrived with the stabs separate from the fuselage. If that other stab is fixed then obviously leave it in place because even if the stabs are fixed, they can look as though they could detach. They would be fairly easy to remove if Pacmin had made the stabs on your model detachable. From what I’ve seen of modern Pacmin packaging, they now package their models with the fuselage on its side as opposed to upright. That means that the stabs have to be separate. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your answer, it's a nice model indeed, it's large and i don't even know the scale of it..
Like you said, if you have to try so hard to detach it's probably fixed from Pacmin factory. So this means that the previous owner broke the wing?
What i need to know now did he try to repare it his own way like on the picture or is the little wooden pin original on the plain?
I think i will remove the pin , clean it and just glue the wing to the plain when it fits perfect.
Thanks for your help!

You’re quite welcome. The model is probably 1/100 scale. Personally I’ve never seen any wood tabs or pins on a Pacmin model. Good luck with the repair, I’m sure it’ll look fine.

Neil.

Thanks!!

Maybe you guy's can tell me how to clean this model best because i don't want do make mistakes on this, there's some hard dust on it, don't want to use products that can damage the body/decals..

Will put some better pictures when the job is done.

If the dust is quite thick I start off with a soft cloth and a drop of washing up liquid in tepid water. Gentle wiping should remove the dust etc. Dip a modellers paint brush into the water to remove the dust from inside the engine cowls and fan blades. Dab dry the model with another soft cloth. Then I use a little Pledge ‘spray on’ furniture polish all over the model, then gently buff the polish off. For models with pure white paintwork, fuselage tops etc, I use white colour coded automotive polish, works a treat. It’s a formula I’ve used for many years and it’s never failed me yet! You’re English is fine BTW

Neil.
