Default Westway Vickers Viscount on CraigsList

I just purchased my first vintage metal large scale model. it's a 1:48 scale Westway Vickers Viscount. According to a label on the shipping box it was manufactured in 1959.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me the value of this model (I want to make sure I didn't over pay). Also, there is some spotting on the wings, but I don't know what caused it. I was told the spots have always been there. Can they be safely removed, without risking damaging the model?

Really nice find there...value wise it would probably find a buyer for at least $800-$1200 but could go higher as this is a rarely seen NORTHEAST version...the DELTA museum might even be interested in this piece of DELTA model history...purely conjecture on my part tho

A very nice model indeed. The spots look like pitting to me, but I’m no expert on metal models. If it is pitting there won’t be much you can do about it, other than possibly stripping the paint off and refinishing, which in my opinion would be sacrilege. Anyways, I’m sure that other members here will have some input on this.

Neil.

The spots are not pitting. I tried to remove them by very gently rubbing them with water. That didn't work, so I tried the same thing with an alcohol pad. That also didn't work.

You could try a very light rub with T-Cut, but try in a non-obvious small area first.

Thank you for the suggestion. I'm scared of removing the surface of the paint.

Thank you very much. I found it in a local (1 hour away) CL ad. I was able to negotiate what I've since realized is a really good price...almost considered theft.
