Default Any fans of manufacturer's desk-top models?

I started collecting these antiques a few years back, just about the same time I discovered contemporary die-cast aircraft models. These Boeing models by Allyn are die-cast alloy though plastic and resin were also used by other companies such as Rolen, Precise, and Topping. It's disappointing that these promos are no longer made as they're very sturdy and will never end up as fireplace kindling after a few years.

There's no constant scale to these models. The B-47 is close to 1:144 while the B-52 measures around 1:250. This Boeing B-50D scales out at around 1:175. The B-57 and the B-66 are significantly larger, right at 1:84.

Hi Pop's Props,

Very nice models indeed.

Thanks for posting your pics.

Still have a few of these models, which I acquired from USAF General Curtis LeMay's personal model collection many years ago.

Nice to see these art-deco models preserved, ALG -- thanks for chiming in. BTW, I have a work-around for that B-52's missing ashtray that you might be interested in. Hook up via PM if you'd like. Here's a couple more from my collection, Verkuyl's C-130E (roughly 1:100 scale) and the Allyn C-133A (close to 1:270). The Cargomaster will be receiving a new set of repro props this summer.

Some very nice and unusual models you have. Those look like the kind of models on desks in old movies that have a military aviation theme, ‘Strategic Air Command’ and a wonderful movie featuring James Stewart and B36s, or was that the same movie? I’m not good on military stuff. Nice to see those models.

Neil.

You've got a marvelous memory, Neil. They're precisely the same types of models seen in many aviation-themed military films of the 1950's era. "Strategic Air Command", "A Gathering Of Eagles", "The McConnell Story", "Flight From Ashiya", etc etc.

I’ve googled those film titles, hopefully I’ll be able to get to see them somehow. Do you have some more models you could show us? Love to see them if you do.

Neil.

I have a few resin/plastic models from Topping and Rolen/Precise. Scale-wise they run the gamut -- from 1:150 (the C-141A Starlifter) to 1:40 (the OV-1D Mohawk to 1:160 (the B-58A Hustler).

A very interesting collectio you have there. Back in the 80s I had a lot to do with the ‘Soviet Starlifter’ the Ilyushin Il76. The Starlifter has always been one of my favourite ‘heavies’. Thanks for the pics.

Mercí, mon amí.

Coincidence indeed! Mine arrived without any stand whatsoever so I grabbed whatever I could find on Ebay just to get model "airborne" for display. I hope to find the correct part soon since I will be having a new set of props installed this summer.
