Default My first Verkuyl 707

Hey just thought I’d share, I picked this up here in Canada and it’s pretty stunning. In fantastic shape for it age with original stand. Early Christmas present to myself. I originally thought to have it refurbished since there is so many LH models out there but it’s unique and think I’ll leave her alone. Enjoy!

Very, very nice indeed, great condition for its age too. Glad you’re going to leave her as is.

Very very nice, just doesn't look complete without the tail antenna.
Wonder if it is possible to conjure something up?

I used to have a 1/50 pre revolution Iran Air Boeing 707. That had no HF antenna on the tail either, it looked as though it was never intended to have one. I once saw a Pan Am version of the same model, also with no antenna. I guess it was a very vulnerable item when these models were ‘earning their keep’ in travel agents/ticket offices, as were the engine nacelles.

Funny thing is this model never had one.

How about the 1:1 American and United Boeing 720s? No tail antennas. Always thought that weird.

But the travel agent models would be accurate.

Hi there, the tail antenna of the 707 is an HF one, required for long distance communication. HF radio is also needed where VHF radio coverage is poor. The 720 was design for medium distance, and American and United used that type mostly within the US so the HF radio is not needed. You could find some 720 fitted with the HF option on some airlines such PIA or EL AL, as they used that type in the conditons describe above. Note that you could also find some 707 fitted with 2 HF radio, Air India for example, and you can see the second antenna on the right wing tip.

I flew transatlantic on a Monarch Airlines 720B many years ago. I think that it belonged to Northwest Airlines prior to Monarch.

Beautiful model, I am refinishing a similar unit that had the HF antenna broken off. The new antenna will be a spruced up Home Depot finishing nail. 😎

Nice job with the refinishing. I used a toothpick on my 1/60 720B. I cut one in half and sanded it down abit to make it less flared coming away from the fin. Best I could think of
