Default Need help with maker

Hello all
I recently acquired this metal P2V-7 Neptune. It is in 1:72nd and made of metal. Very accurate. The cockpit windows are painted the way Verkuyl painted the F-105's. Makes me think it could be a Verkuyl. Or maybe a Lockheed factory model? I also saw a large Lockheed factory F-104 painted that way on the canopy. It is very accurate. Has a wing span of 15.5 inches outboard tank to outboard tank. It isn't often that I can't identify a model but this one has me.

It is in near mint and doesn't look like it was ever refinished. The Neptune flew in the mid 50's to mid 60's . That would make this model very old.

It could be Tenshodo, the Japanese did fly the piston powered Neptune, they also flew a Kawasaki built version of the Neptune which had turboprop engines. So I could envisage this being a Tenshodo model, but I’m no expert on metal models.

Thank you Neil and M404. Makes perfect sense. It lacks the Verkuyl feeling. Probably Tenshodo. It is a very well made model. Now I can research it a bit more. That is the fun part of collecting.

cheers

Hi Al & Neil & M404,

Hope all is well.

You model may indeed by made by Tenshodo. Found a similar model shown below:

Hope that this information helps.

Hi Robert. Looks like the the indigenous version of the Neptune, I’d say it’s a Tenshodo model too.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for that. That picture is a Tenshodo. But they made only a few and they are in 1:100th scale. Mine is a 1:72nd with a Wing span of 15 and 1/2 inches from outboard sides of tip tanks. I have done extensive research and I am narrowed down to Lockheed Factory model, probably sub contracted to Verkuyl (the cockpit paint is the give away. Only Topping and Verkuyl used the blue on grey). In any case, it is a rare one. I always wanted to do a Canadian version, but this is in near mint shape and I will not touch it.

Cheers
