What's the story with these models. Is there anything special about them or are they an unfinished 'blank'? Their was another on ebay recently, a DC8-60 series of same finish, scale and manafacture (see attached ~ not mine).

The model is a 1/100 made by Pacific Miniatures.

The no 2. Engine has a different thrust reverse cowl than any Pacific Miniature 1/100 DC10 I have seen. The reverser is also inconsistent with the no 1 and 3 engines on this model.

Those engine pods look unusual for a DC8-61. A mysterious couple of models.

I have a few of these. They were made by Wesco for McDonnell Douglas Marketing Aids.
Most that you find will be in Douglas House livery (like the one below) or Transylvania and Mexicana. I have most of the liveries done.


They are very common. I still see them on Ebay now and then but they are getting pricey. I have seen them go for $300 usd

It would be interesting to know a little more about wesco and the relationship with Pacific Miniatures. Does any one one know? Are there any books or articles around?

I’ve owned various Wesco models over the years I’ve collecting these things, and I quite liked them. I presently have this 1/100 Continental A300. On the underside it states that it was made in Mexico as did the others. True they’re no Space or Pacmin model but they’re not that bad at all especially for the price, and some of the subjects are unusual.

The Wecos Models that I owned were all 1/100

DC10 Mexicana
L1011 Air Transat
747 North American.

I was very surprised at the good prices that I got when I sold them, especially the Tristar. I’ve not had much luck finding out anything about the company though.

Wesco were a Mexican company and Pacmin were a start up in California (LA). Eventually Wesco went into financial hardship and Pacmin bought them out. Wesco models were usually all in one piece and nearly unbreakable. Very similar materials as Topping models. I have a few Wesco and they are some of the most accurate models I own. You rarely see a broken Pylon on a Wesco but we know what Pacmins are like!!!
