Restoration Projects and 1:200s for sale

5 Attachment(s)
A very dedicated member of our hobby passed away recently, leaving his widow with some models I am advertising here. Larger scale ones are in need of restoration, and there is a photo of some 200 scale models that are new-in-box. Reasonable offers will be brought to her attention. The models are in Ontario, Canada but can be shipped. Thanks!

I believe the larger models are 1:72 scale, walkers westways, space models, and the Canadian 767 is a Wesco 1:100.

Very sad to hear about the passing of a fellow collector. You might want to post a sales thread in the 'Sales' section, along with the specific model information. Some on the DAC may have a challenge looking at the 1 photo for particular models. All the best with the model sales.

I also reiterate, that it's truly very sad to hear about the passing of a fellow model collector.

That is sad. Is it wrong that I feel bad buying a model from a collection, knowing the owner lost there life? I guess if it's what there spouse wants,I just have trouble with these. How I am wired I guess.

An old man (collector) once said "Look at all your models, for now. One day they will, all, be sitting in someone else's collection"

That is so true. In recent years I’ve thought of myself as a sort of ‘guardian’ of my models, ensuring that they will someday (hopefully not too soon) they will give pleasure to a future collector somewhere.

Re: Restoration Projects and 1:200s for sale

A few years back I helped a widow dispose of her husbands garage full collection of vintage unbuilt model kits. She tried selling them on Kijiji but realized the vultures were trying to steal her husbands models for pennies on the dollar. She found me and asked me to help her realize the collections value for her two kids college fund. Models people responding to her Kijiji ads were offering her $5.00, eventually sold for hundreds of dollars. It felt very good to help her and the kids by using my experience and knowledge to maximize the collections value.

The other thing you must consider is most collectors have a passion to collect and often it is not shared by the spouse, but tolerated. When the collector passes, the spouse is left with a burden they don't fully understand and can be overwhelming for them. Don't feel bad buying part of someones collection. You are likely helping.

She is having trouble parting with them. So I believe this may be on hold for awhile longer. These models connect her to her late husband so it is a very delicate matter. When she is ready I will repost. She thought she was ready to re-home them, but when I asked her to quote shipping rates she changed her mind. Sorry!

This is sad, but sweet. Let her take her time. When she is ready, I am sure you will be able to help them find happy collectors to bring them home.
