Default British Airways L1011-500 Pacific Miniatures

Hello Everyone. The model I have depicts the -1 wing and does not have the fillet below the no.2 engine intake. It inclues a below galley door, midship doors are further aft than normal and it has a rego G-BBAE. I suspect the model dates to 1975 and reflects the original 6.1m reduction rather than 4.1m standard reduction. If anyone has a pacmin model of a -500 BA tristar I would really appreciate some photos! Thank you in advance.

A very nice model, probably not too many around either. I did fly on a BA -500 from Larnaca to Heathrow many moons ago.

Landor L1011 is one of my favorite also!
My 1st L1011 ride was with Cathay from Manila to Hong Kong Kaitak
then Hong Kong Kaitak to Seoul.

She truly was a beauty...

Thanks for the comments. Sadly I have never been in a Tristar. I have seen the procedural trainer in the RAF museum in North London and the RB211-22B engine in the Science museum in Kensington. Down here in NZ the 1011 did not have scheduled ops therefore not much opportunity for flights / spotting etc. That said, I have seen ATA and RAF Tristars at CHC and AKL.

I have a couple of other Tristar models, see below. The BA -500 is different than the -500 in that it's missing the fairing and extended wingtips.

If anyone does have a -500 it would be good to see some photos!

Very nice indeed! I do have this 1/100 Gulf Air -200 another classy livery no longer gracing our skies. I had the model made around ten years ago. Not the best picture, taken before 'radical' reorganisation of my collection.

Here are my BA TriStar 500s (1/50, 1/72, 1/100) and two old Pacmin 500s (1/100) and the -400 (1/100). All the same at no.2 and all with the larger wingspan except the -400. So it must be a very rare and early 500 from Pacmin you have.

@airlineguy

Thank you for your photos. The -500 is a very nice model.

@1011 marcus

Wow. What a collection you have (re 459 L1011 circa 2012). Quite envious of your collection. The -400 is remarkable. Thank you for sharing your photos. Is your -400 a couple of cm shorter than your -500's?

So I have been looking into this a little more...

When compared against the -500 model, the BA fueslage is 1.5cm shorter ahead of the wing leading edge and 2.5 cm longer aft of the wing trailing edge. It is identical in length aft of the wing trailing edge to the -1 model however is the same overall length as the -500 model.

Here's the thing... It's got a 2cm plug aft of the wing trailing edge.

It's hard to see unless a light is shined across the fuselage. I suspect the model has been repainted and new decals applied, but because of the plug, the window and door decals are not in the right location. Note L2 and R2 and further aft and L3 and R3 are further forward. The decals match those on BA -1 series aircraft and the registration matches the first BA -1 aircraft.

Prior to modification, I suspect the model would have depicted the 6.1m fuselage reduction circa 1975.

I have many pacmin models and have seen many more. This is the first one I have seen which has a plug.

I suspect it could be quite unusual, even a one off.

What do you guys think?

I'm very fond of the Tristar and really like the photos you've posted above. A few of mine below. Pink Courtline and Cathay are Executive Display. The yellow Courtline is Westway. All 1/100s

A very nice trio of models. Personally I think that Executive Display Models made the best airline display ever. Sadly neither the company founder Brian Tomkins, nor the company itself are around today.

Hi folks, what do you reckon I have here ? I picked this up in a second hand aviation bookshop in Dingwall yesterday. I'm working on the presumption it's a Pacmin but don't know ? I'm generally a 1:400 and 1:200 scale diecast collector. It feels like resin build and has the ficticious reg G-ABBA and notable 'bulged' fairings under the RB-211's.

The smaller model also pictured is a Gemini Jets L-1011-500 in 1:200 scale to provide a scale comparison and I'm guessing this is in 1:100 scale but again not sure owing to limited experience in these kinds of scales. I note a 1:50 scale 'G-ABBA' in some of the earlier posts above but mine doesn't have the same amount of detail. It's 53cm long and 47cm wide approximately.

Nice catch. I think G-ABBA was used on a few Tristar Models before delivery.

Wow, what a find! A very nice model. It looks like a Westway model to me, or could possibly be a Space Models example. I don’t think it’s likely to be a Pacmin, but I’m more than ready to be proven wrong. G-ABBA was widely used on most BA display if a reg was used on them, not all of their models had registrations though. A lot of airlines use fictional registrations to avoid having to replace large numbers of models shoul anything dreadful happen to the real thing.

Great looking model. Looks to be English (space westway skyland). It's an interesting model. Very lucky! I bought my -500 from a bookshop.

Hi again,

There was a post (or two) on the Gatwick Aviation Show thread within the Airliner Shows sub forum suggesting places I might get a stand for my Tristar model. The thread no longer exists and I could use the info again if anyone has it or any clicky links ? Apologies for not noting it initially I've had a time of it of late in and out of hospital with a seriously knackered right foot.

Hi. Newbie here! I have a pacmin tristar L-1011 1/100 in courtline livery. It has wooden base with brass plaque. Court folded in 74 so this must be at least 44yrs old. i have owned for 22yrs. Can any of you guys tell me what you know about this model? does anyone else have one of this age with the court livery? Unfortunately, it is missing the portside engine Any suggestions of who, if anyone, able to supply or remaufactured parts for this model.

You could try 3d printing. A number of commercial companies should exist in your vicinity. They can scan the other engine, then print an engine. You would need to prepare the engine I.e. sanding, spray painting etc... should be a good outcome. Another option would be robbing a donor 1/100 kit with an RB211 22B with hot stream reverser... sounds line a nice model you have.
