Default Cleaning Stained Travel Agency Models

What are the collectors using to clean vintage travel agency models that might be stained with dirt or nicotine?

Personally, for light dirt staining and dust, I first do a gentle wipe over with luke warm soapy water, taking care not to saturate the model. After carefully drying it, I then use a spray on wax furniture polish with a soft duster, the polish I use is called Pledge here in the U.K. For heavier staining I use Turtle Wax auto polish. They do a range of colour coded polishes here in the U.K. I use the white one for upper fuselages, and their standard polish for non white areas. I use a cocktail stick to clean along panel lines. Its a combination that's worked for me, the art of course is deciding how much cleaning/polishing it's wise to do on older rarer models. Sometimes I've found it a nerve racking experience with older models, that's for sure! I've never tried this method on metal models as I've never owned any. Hope that helps.

Neil.

Hi car15,

Warm water and light amount of hand soap on a soft towel or soft rag.

I also "air out" models like this for as long as it takes, to get any nicotine smell and or smoke scent off of the model.

Hope that this info helps.

Regards, Robert

Rubbing alcohol using fine lens cloth . most stains come off in seconds and alcohol dries up instantly without damaging clearcoat.
