Hi Milos, hope all good with you.
For a 1/100 IL62 model, I think that's an extraordinary price. True that it appears to be a genione Soviet era model, and that it has a rarer variation of the more usual Aeroflot livery, even so, IMO, this is still an expensive model and is making considerably more money than it's worth.

Having said all that, its a beautiful model, and of course worth whatever anyone's prepared to pay for it, and I wish the seller well in getting the best price.

Neil.

Hi Neil, I agree what you said. I will have the pleasure of holding that model in my hands when I visit my friend in IST. However he was not the only one who has offered such a high price, which proves that demand dictates price. I believe that the model is not overpaid and currently worth that much on the market...

Hello,
This will be my next project after Lorne's DC-8. My model is a 1:48th original (I mean not recast) made by the Ilyushin Design Bureau. A friend ,on this forum from the UK, told me there wasn`t very many of these made. I acquired it in bare aluminum skin (weight to size ratio, this thing could fly if you had movable parts and power). The engines are removable an slide on the pylons. I have a stand for it (A copy of the original).

Pictures are before and after. I took it to a friend that refinishes antique cars (why reinvent the wheel ?). He got the rivets, welds and dings filled and ready for painting (he is a genius). I have Aeroflot, LOT and Cubana decals for it. Haven't made up my mind yet which I will do. It will be for sale when I am done.
It is a fairly large model at approx 44 inches long.

Pictures of before and after the fuselage tune up.

I think the IL-62M is one of the most beautiful design ever. Seen head on it is breath taking. On my model the engines are bang on and in a slightly up angle. It has the appropriate front slats on the wing leading edge. I guess something made by the company itself has to be close to the best.

An interesting fact, for those skeptical of the Russian aviation is: Within the group of comparable airliners (Il-62/Il-62M, VC10/Super VC10, Boeing 707, DC8) the Il-62M had the lowest hull loss rate. There were no fatal accidents involving an Il-62 between 1989 and 2009. That is quite the feat. There are still a few flying.

I will keep you posted of progress. It is time I stop procrastinating about this and get done.

Al

Don't get me wrong Milos, as I've always said, the market dictates the price. But I still think the model is just not worth that much, but of course, to the person who really wants it, its worth every penny. That's just my opinion, nothing more. We all collect differently, I think that's what makes our hobby so interesting, and long may it be so.

Al. That Il62 is going to be stunning for sure. It too annoys me when people denigrate out of hand, all Soviet era airliners, in particular the Il62. I worked with Aeroflot, Interflug and Cubana 62s, back in the 1980s. The type fulfilled its purpose as dictated by the command economic planning of the Soviet government, that's all it was designed to do, and it did it well. Like the earlier Il18, it was 'virtually indestructible'

Are your Cubans decals the scheme with the older cheat line design, or the more modern 'billboard' type livery. My favourite scheme on the both the 62 and 18, is Interflug. Look forward to seeing it completed, whatever the colour scheme.

Neil.

Gee ... I wonder what my model is worth. It has even some historical value as it was a present from Ilyushin to Alexander Sergeyevich Yakovlev himself for his 60th birthday ...

Hi Al,

Hope all is well.

Thanks so much for the info concerning your next restoration of that Ilyushin Design Bureau IL-62M.

I'm sure that the model will look fantastic, once completed.

Best Regards, Robert
