Wow somebody got that for a steal! It isn't a 747 and as per description, the seller did not know what he was dealing with.
It indeed looks like a genuine Douglas Factory Model DC-8 in the livery of Aeromexico ! But the only thing im skeptical about are the excess holes on the bottom and the nose. Seems like it may also be Fond Nucci model perhaps? Any opinions?

I was guessing that it was an Aeromexico paint scheme but Im not sure if this was originally polished or painted.

Seeing it from a more modest collector's perspective, I'd say: if the buyer is a professional restorer, then he'll have bought a great item for a bargain price.

If otherwise, to buy the correct stand (original or repro) and to have the model restored will cost him multiple times the item price, which puts the "bargain" a bit into perspective, IMO.

Not to say if the buyer is from outside North America. Then add several hundreds for the whole shipping procedure and customs.

Always loved the DFM DC-8-models on Fred Cox' site, which doesn't seem to be up anymore. Anybody know why?

I used to be in touch fairly often with Fred, but no longer. None of my emails have been replied to for some time now. He does appear to have a You Tube channel, which has nothing to do with aircraft or aircraft models, definately the same guy though.
