BA DC10 - A Spacemodels Record?

Is this a record for a 1/100th Spacemodels on eBay? £805 GBP / $1065 USD?

British Airways DC10 - Space Models 1/100 scale - mint in original box - Landor | eBay

Though I've seen PacMin prices go high I've not seen a Spacemodels model do something like this (unless I've missed it).

A worthwhile price and/or someone wanted it really bad?? Or, is this too much no matter how nice it was?

It gives me hope for my 1/50th BA DC10 and those of us with quite a few Spacemodels aircraft! :D

Richard

well it was mint with original box! but I have never seen a spacemodel model go as high as that. plus never seen a dc 10. so very rare too!

problem with 1/50 + bigger models they are just TOO big for most collectors. 1/100 is a nice size!

Hi Richard & Robert,

It always comes down to what someone is willing to pay to acquire an object for his/her collection.

IMHO.

:)

I was the competing bidder that lost it. I stopped at 790GBP. I knew he wasn't going to give up, so I kept bidding and stopped with 9 seconds to go.

It would've looked nice next to my 1/100 scale Space Models NWA DC10.

BA Landor DC10 models are quite rare, but that price is very high IMO. I wonder if the model will be heading to Turkey. A certain collector there will go to virtually any price to get the model he wants, and he can certainly afford to. It's a brave man who bids against him. Just a theory, nothing more.

Well, the higher it got, the less I wanted it. It then became a cat and mouse game that ran up the price. I felt, "If I win it, great. If he wins it, well he's gonna have to pay for it". And the way I see it, it's a rare piece of art, and rare art is going to cost you. I could've won it with my bidding snipe, setting an ultra-high proxy price, but when it climbed to 600USD, I pulled it about 30 minutes before and chose to let it go, and just up-bidded. Not my finest hour, but it showed that whoever it was, wanted it at almost any price.

I think you did the right thing. As I've learnt in the many years I've been collecting these things, there'll be another one that comes along someday. Thanks to a fellow DAC member, I recently obtained an Egyptair model that I had been seeking for over ten years. I hope you find another BA DC10 quicker than that :)

Watch bidding as increasingly more people are bidding without intending to buy (shill bidding but impossible to track these days).
Some sellers then use second offer which leaves the buyer paying more than if the other bidder hadn't bid at all.

May get relisted?

I dare say that Westway could do one of superior quality, and a bit cheaper too. I've only ever seen one other Space BA Landor DC10, and that belonged to Paull Benn. This model us nowhere near as common as the other BA Landor models made by Space, so I guess the price the model made reflected that. Still too much IMO.

I've always loved the DC10, and I'm lucky enough to own a 1/72 Skyland Finnair one, a 1/100 JAT version, and a 1/100 SAS one too.

Neil.
