Default Current Ebay Auctions & Other For Sale (PacMin, Atlantic, Wesco, all large scale)

I figured it was about time to create a thread where we can post interesting models (that are rare and hard to find) that are being auctioned off or for sale on other sites. This way, rather than a bunch of individual threads, we can have one thread for all the interesting items.

Why a thread? This way we can alert each other to interesting models. Obviously these kinds of models don't pop up for sale every day, and in fact, should probably be relegated to rare ones. And no, these are not my listings (at all).

Here's the first one: ANA 767-300 "Star Wars" R2D2

A great idea. Be interesting to see what turns up!

There is a downside to that too. The model you see on Ebay with 0 bids, while you're hoping to be the sole person to see it, bid and win the auction suddenly comes under the watch of a whole group, resulting a several other prospective bidders.

I second Moin's motion.

Anybody, and I know I'm not the only one, searches frequently and even has a watch agent that notifies me when specific items come up. If you think you're the only one watching, you're not being realistic. Just because you win a model that you're the only bidder is often not because no one else knew about it, it's because no one wanted it.

...or someone forgot to bid as a result of being away or occupied by personal business.

Agreed! Any serious aviation enthusiast is well aware of the multiple model websites and forums and scrolls through auction sites in constant search for models as though it is the only purpose in life.

I'll even give a couple of examples.

1) the Korean Airlines and Finnair MD-17. Why those models not only didn't sell with reasonable if not cheap Buy-it now options is beyond me. They were sales campaign models, built by PacMin for McDonnell Douglas and pitched to airlines who happened to be McDonnell Douglas customers, including for the MD-11. These have some historical significance, yet they didn't sell quickly.

2) sometimes these models carry ridiculous pricing on them from the start of the auction, and continue to be delisted with the price dropping and dropping and dropping.

I don't think it's bad. There are a few models people here wouldn't bid on that I'd buy I. A heartbeat (at any price in some cases), and vice versa. I'd rather share and know than not. It's easy to miss something.

In which case no need for further promotion on this website

I agree with Ashley and Moin. The beauty of this hobby is for those of us that are collectors (and not traders) we like to find a bargain. I don't need more people reminding those that pay way over the odds what is out there

If you are interested in seeing what people have bought start a thread and we can post pictures.

The fun of being a collector is finding something you want and being the only one. Too bad if someone else wanted it. They should have found it too!

I concur with you. I have restricted eyesight, and found out this week that I've lost slightly more, so this idea will save me some searching. I can't speak for anyone else, but I stand by what I said in my previous post.

I realise that my views on this will put me 'out of step' with some collectors, but I'll live with that.

Neil.

But here's the thing - we still see a number of individual threads pop up for models that are on eBay. Just stick 'em in one thread rather than clutter up the forum with a bunch of individual threads of "did you see this on eBay" (with a different thread header)

But the examples I gave show you can get a bargain. And in the end, occasionally models pop up that I didn't find (I would like to have) or that have popped up that I have no interest in and share with everyone else.

Again, this notion that you're finding a bargain because no one else found it, I don't buy (pun intended). It's a model someone doesn't want. To each his own.

Some good comments here. I think the reason I spend all day on my phone is because some folk have models to sell that they have little interest in (I. E. Granddads old model which has been in the attic for 50 years). They may know little about the aircraft / model or the model making companies that manufactured them. I sometimes find these models by using wildcard searches. Typically these folk are happy with the buy now you offer. Poorly categorised models may result in a bargain as they may slip through predefined filters.

@jet x, thanks for posting the links to these models. It's all ways good to see what's up for grabs. Keep them comming.

Hi Jet-X,

Thanks for starting this thread.

It has certainly added a spirited discussion to the board.

That's a beauty, and very rare indeed. I can't help wondering wether this gem may possibly be 'Asia Minor ' bound
