Default New idea for displaying models

Hi friends
I am just setting up my new shop in the Comox Valley. I have this platform that I love to just sit by and procrastinate while looking at some models. Never could figure out a good base motif for it. I came up with the idea of using Air Navigation charts. I have hundreds of them. Then I laid a 1/4 inch Plexiglas on top. I only have a few models moved but I wanted to give you a preview. The platform sits at about 4ft and is about 8ft by 9ft. I will also glue some charts to cover all the vertical wood areas.
A quick look also at a late arrival, an old Pacmin 737-200 Eastern Provincial. A few nicks here and there and a US registration that will have to come off. The 707 is Verkuyl 1:50th and was my second one, that I did for myself.

Just thought I would share,

Cheers

Al

A very imaginative display platform. The EPA 737 is a real gem, the -200 is my favourite version of the 737.

Very good idea indeed! It's always nice to see aviation- or even airline-related items included in a model-display.

Great idea, I love the EPA. I flew on them from Montreal (Dorval at the time) to Saint John,NB in July 1976. Yes the Olympic year in Montreal. Gee that was a long time ago. I have an endless list of good memories as a child in the 70's that involve aviation somehow. Born in 1968. Time go's way to fast.

Hello Al,

Excellent. Air Navigation chart underlays will give viewers a sense of the adventure and knowledge of geography that goes with flying. Bravo.

Here's my die cast B-2 Spirit using a trading card game hex map sheet as a photo underlay. To me, it enhances display of even a 'toy model'. Takes it out of the static realm and gives it mission purpose. And you've taken it to the next level. Please post up as you work to completion.

Cheers, and have fun collecting...and displaying. ArnoldC.

Even fictional maps like yours can work just as well as real-world nav charts!
