Default AGM Models Lufthansa Boeing 747 cutaway 1/50

Recently I was able to buy this fine 1/50 scale cutaway 747-100 for my Lufthansa-collection. It was made by "Aeronautical & General Models" (AGM Models) from Hounslow in England - probably in 1970 when Lufthansa was the first European airline to introduce the 747. The company is known as "Mastermodels" today.
The cabin is very detailed and lighted. Everything's there: For example the red seats Lufthansa used to have in First Class or the cinema-screens in tourist-class. Unfortunately the original tripod-stand was lost - may be I'll have one made for the model.

Enjoy the pictures!

Michael

Anybody have an idea what these slits in the perspex are for? Probably to gain access to the lighting... What's your guess?

Hi Michael,

It's certainly a great addition to your model collection!

Thanks so much for taking the time to post the pics here for all to see.

Great models. Vintage cutaways have such a nice look to them. The holes cut through the perspex is probably as Robert mentions; access. Light bulbs burn out….however, they don't look original.

Flew on the GE 747 or LH.

Very nice model, a real 'survivor' As for the slits? I've no idea, though the access idea is plausible. My first idea was ventilation for the lighting, but then it would be a feature of other models of this type, wouldn't it? Does the lighting system look original?

A very impressive model. I would however make a new stand (tripod) for it.

No doubt an impressive piece! for me the cabin is fantastic. The design of the seats is very real, everything is there,as you say. Of course, with a tripod the model gains another soul.

Congratulations because it is really a beautiful piece.

My 1966 vintage 1/72 HS Andover is also made by the same company, AGM. By the look of things, they certainly made a wide variety of models!

Michael,

Is your other 747 by the same mfg? Nice to have a sister ship.

Best,
Herb

Herb, the other 747 is a 1/50 "Westway Models" 747-200. It's not a cutaway-model. I have a "Westway" cutaway in 1/72 scale. It is open on both sides, whereas the AGM 747 pictured above is only open on the port side.

Michael

Beautiful Michael.fantastic models. As Pinto mentioned about the 1/50 cutaway- the seats are nicely done. Now, regarding the 1/72; could we see a bit closer the cabin details. Fascinating stuff!

Now this is a model to die for. My holy Graille. Someday..... someday I will find it and hopefully have the money to buy it...... Someday

And if nothing works, I will get the cutaway, even if without the stand

Wonderful models. I have always wanted a cut-away airline model, every since I was about 12 years old and saw a huge Pan Am 707 cut-away model in London's Pan Am office in Piccadilly. However, the few that ever became available have always been too expensive and even if I did buy one, where would I put it as 'domestic opposition' would surely intervene! I have enough trouble smuggling yet another 1/400 scale model into the house!

Thats the story with most of us...

- Saw the a BA Landor 747 and fell for it and aviation..... Never managed to buy one but some day.... a Lufti cutaway B747....

Domestic opposition, yes, that is a big issue.

Trouble smuggling in new models - thought I found a solution by putting them in my office - till she visited me in the office.
