Cool 1/15 scale Embraer Legacy and 1/50 scale EAL DC-8-61

After a very long wait these two models zipped past my radar last week. One has been out there for a while, the other more recent.
The DC-8-61 has some paint loss on the nose, but has been in storage for 35 years. The Embraer is more rencent and comes from the Embraer factory.

Attached are some quick pics. Real pics upon delivery.

Best,
Herb

The DC8 looks great. Saw a similar EAL DC8-61 on an auction website and they wanted $6000.00 for it.

Hi Herb,

Nice additions indeed.

That's a really large Embrarer factory model. Very cool.

I believe that I know where you got that Eastern Douglas DC-8-61 Metal Model from.

They defiantly wanted top dollar for the model:

Huge Aluminum Eastern Airlines DC8 Scale Model Plane at 1stdibs

Hopefully you were able to get it for a lower amount.

Both are great models and am sure that they will be enjoyed for many years to come.

Regards, Robert

There ya go...1stdibs auction. that was the place. I inquired about the model earlier this year and offered 5 grand and they still refused. Hope you got a better deal on it.

Thanks all for your positive input. These two types of aircraft are my primary illustration focus- bizjets and airliners. I'm happy to have found them and feel fortunate I could work with the sellers. I don't want to get into financials but acquisition was not overnight.
The DC-8 comes from a travel agency that was closed in 1980 after being in business since 1959. The other model was never uncrated since new and is from the Embraer factory in Brazil.
They should arrive after the new year so will photograph the delivery and un-boxing, (un-crating), process.

Best,
Herb

Thanks Rui, i've wanted an original stretch 8 for quite sometime since selling off my KLM DC-8-30 by Raise-up. It hung outside my apartment door in the skylight for years. Re the SST's. I passed as much info as possible to ARD and asked if they please keep on their short list for a set of the Series II production. The updates are strictly cosmetic as their mould pattern looks quite good for mahogany. I wish them success in the future.
I'll be thinking about one other model that still might still be in play. I hope they will reconsider my previous offer; I could possibly inch up a bit.

Herb, any news on the acquisition of the (very large) Gulfstream cutaway?

Neil.

Hi Neil,
I was interested but it won't be happening now. Perhaps at a later time. Also have to think about space limitations. I'm probably close to max now. May pursue after my move in a couple of months. There's also the show in LA. Most likely something there will catch my attention too!
Best,
Herb

I'm in the same boat ref space. I'm fortunate in that I'm able to provide space for all of my models to be displayed simultaneously. That means that none of my models have to languish in cardboard and sponge 'prisons' but as I say, I'm lucky in that respect. Maybe that 'Gulf' or one like it, will come round again

Hello All,

The stretch 8 arrived today. I'm quite happy with it. The fanjet series of 8's has a been a lifelong interest, as well as original condition. The comparison photo is with a 1:200 Inflight Seaboard -63. One negative is the small area of missing paint on the nose that needs a touch up. I will leave it as is as to not spoil it's originality.

The Legacy is on its way and should be here by next week. Fingers crossed she arrives in one piece as well.

Enjoy a few quick pics~

Best,
Herb

Both are show stoppers Herb but that DC-8 takes an extra adjective - "GORGEOUS!"

Congrats

That's a real beauty there Herb. Back in the late 60s (when I was VERY young) we used to see the 'Stretched 8s' of Saturn, TIA, ONA, American Flyers, Universal and Airlift. I think the last DC8 I ever saw, was a UPS example, maybe a -73? Was lucky enough to fly on a Scanair -63, back in '85.

Thanks All, for your kind words. Eastern Airlines, by far, was the airline I grew up with,(American a close second). Many, many years aboard the "Wings of Man" aircraft has left life long happy memories. Missed a ride on EAL's stretch 8's, but will never forget them at JFK from the old light blue terminal/observation deck as well in the gates next to the plentiful 727's and DC-9's when we travelled. Now where can I find a baby nine?!

I loved to see these aircraft. The charter clubs loved them and packed them to the brim!
My last sighting was while sitting at the Korean Air Freight building - We were in an 18 wheeler, so most security thought we were there on business...anyway, a bright yellow -73 touched down right in front of us. I didn't snap a photo for some reason. Just wanted to see the airplane land. Have static pics on one of my discs. Will have to find again and post them.
