Default Original Factory Douglas DC-6 Model

Does anyone here have an image of an original factory Douglas DC-6 model? I am in the process of restoring a 1/72nd scale original Douglas factory DC-6 model and was wondering what the original stand, stand emblem and props look like.

Thanks!

Hi car15,

Very cool that you have a DC-6 DFM, that you're going to restore.

These pics may help somewhat:

On this site you see a 1/72 DFM SAS Six:

Hi Dakota,

Thanks for that link.

It's a great looking classic commercial airliner indeed!

Frank,
Here you go, although mine are 1/50. The 1/72 DFM -6 has a one piece prop, rather than separate hubs.

Excellent! I was wondering what stand emblem Douglas used on the DC-6, now im sure. As far as the stand, I was going to use the one that has the upright coming up from near the center of the stand base but now Im not sure. I also would love to see what the one piece prop looks like. One piece metal props or plastic? Im pretty sure the 1/72 also did not come with a swivel. I will post some before and after images later.

The older DFM stands are for the dc 4. See example. And some very early dc-6 without the a or b designation.

The pre-swivel models are generally limited I the dc-4, though the ship one dc-6 (all of mine are 1/50) also has no swivel. The dc-6 in 1/72 scale DFM did have a swivel.

Here is one of my DFM DC6 in 1/72 scale....you can see how the props look on this one. This is on a swivel stand...the odd part of this model is that while it comes with an original DC-6A tag, the DOUGLAS Rocket logo is also affixed. I do not know how early Douglas started using this logo on their stands (I had thought it was developed with their entry into producing rocket components in the late 50's or ear;y 60's)

Since we are talking about DC-6 restorations does anyone have a Raise Up DC-6 with the removable wings? I am trying to locate a set to copy for a restoration.

If you go to aviationmodels-online you will find that someone is selling the Douglas badge for the DFM stands.

Excellent image and it answers some of my questions. Can you post an image of the upright/swivel as it is connected to the belly of the model? Also, is the swivel hole on the bottom of the wing round or squared? Thanks!

Very nice badge! I have purhased a few. These are the large ones for the 1/50 models. The 1/72 ones are smaller.
