Hello DALCaptRet,

I personally have never gotten a response back from them myself, the one or two times I've emailed them. But, have a few contacts for you here from their website, which might help:

[email protected]

[email protected]

Also, I've heard that Doug Dunn does many types of highly detailed model restorations. His phone number is 07957214527 and just "maybe", his email address is [email protected]. Hope that this info helps.

Also, not sure if you're looking to purchase new models or restore old one's but, I'm also an authorized USA dealer for The Toys & Models Corporation. The company has been in business for over 30+ years and makes over 2,000 different high quality museum type airplane, aerospace and ship models. The company can also do true "custom models" upon request. You might wish to take a look at their website below, as there may be other models that you may wish to purchase:

Custom Airplane Models, Ship & Space Models and more by Toys and Models Corporation

Thanks and wishing you a great rest of the day.

Regards

dont expect a response unless you specifically state in your email " ok i'll take my business elsewhere". at that point you will get a response either saying they didnt get your email or that they sent you a response already. surprising how they always get the message at that last instance.

Hello !
About Westway ! you must to forget to contact them ! Unfortunaltely it's now the worst model maker i know...
Last year I bought 3 tripod stands from them, I paid immediatly and ....never received the parcel and tracking number too. Samantha didn't want I paid via paypal but only via transfert ! i understand now : no possibility to refund money and she told me that she 'll resend a new parcel or refund money later...after several emails to Doug and samantha : NO ANSWER, NO COMMUNICATION,NO STAND...they stole my money !

Hello,
I didn't want to bring it up again but after reading the message from Francois and input from other people I have to agree. I invested big bucks to have two Models re conditioned by Westways. They came back with very amateur mistakes and poor finish. The only thing good I can say is they re fabricated a set of wings for my L-1011 perfectly.

The few times I was able to speak to Mr Dunn I could see his hart was into it. However I get the impression his daughter is not to keen on the business. I got a lot of no response and we never got your email type answers. Be aware also that when you ship a model from North America to be re finished or repaired the paper work has to be perfect and Broker to broker. I tried doing it myself and they tried everything to take the models away at the customs zone. I had to threaten legal action in the end. Then it was all settled with a simple letter. So really be careful when you do this. Good Luck!

P.S. If you would like pictures of the end result I will be happy to send them to you.

I've noticed that a lot of people with problems are outside of the UK. I'm wondering if that's the problem? Does Westway not really want to deal with non-UK customers. By that I mean have the problems with shipping, customs, language or whatever? Not in a nasty way, but, are they just giving better service to people like Ashley and me because we are based in the UK and they can send stuff quickly to us?

Thoughts?

That is possible. But they should state that. I remember now, one of the big issues I had with customs was that westways did not have a EU permit or license. They were not officially recognized to do what they say they dealt with. That was a shock to me. To my knowledge this company was the Grand Daddy of the industry. I think Mr Dunn needs someone in administration who cares. We all know that if you don't love this hobby a 747 and a DC-3 are the same thing.

How many times have you walked by a travel agency, to find the aircraft models are put together with the elevators up side down or the stand was set up wrong? The majority really don't notice or care.

Come on guys, don't be bashing them, personally I have done business a few times with Doug and I have no complaints. I find that he still maintains that old school pride in his job that started 30 years ago. He tries so hard to please everyone but there is also another side of the coin which, from personal experience needs to be considered. I know that all of us out there are passionate about our model collecting, but let's face it and admit it, some of us get a little carried away and expect perfection and in some ways that's a bit unfair to model makers and to ourselves.

Trust me, Doug is willing to listen to our requests and try his best to please, his email is

[email protected]

There is another email out there that does not work which belonged to his son who sadly passed away a few years back, they don't have access to the emails that went there so use the one that I have supplied and they will respond.

Good luck and most of all, be reasonable.

We'll see - email sent. Hard not to bash someone that doesn't want to return emails.

I'm sad because I'm a great westway (and walker westway) model collector. I've near 15 cutaway from them .... but I don't trust them now..

I say give them a chance, BUT!!! I encourage you to manage your expectations, don't go crazy with the micro details, that would make anyone crazy and remember two things, 1 Westway is about the best option you have out there now and 2. they are only humans, be kind to them and don't forget there are bigger things in life to worry about than minor details on a model. I am happy with two of the models shown here that they did for me.

Just my two cents......

This is really weird how our experiences with different companies differ. I dealt with Westway this past winter on 3 occasions and received my parcels in very quick time. And then there are the bad experiences some of you are having with them. Same goes for Atlantic models. I sent Roger some very rare decals for reproduction (something he agreed to prior to me sending them). This was in June 2009 or 2010 (forget now). Anyway, since then it's been lies after lies after lies. Unanswered emails for 6 months followed by the odd email telling me I will be looked after.(As recently as 4 months ago). Then all goes quiet again. No phone calls answered as well as emails. I call and he isn't there. Why don't they just come and say "I will not help you and leave us alone!" At least we would know where we stand. As for my decals, I have heard through other restorers that I am not the first one to have decals mysteriously disapear. So I gave up. Broken promises by businesses like Atlantic Models and broken promises by other collectors, forced me to improve my graphic skills and now I do all my own stuff. Plus I now have a huge collection of decals that I have purchased here and there. I would never deal with Atlantic models. I actually had 3 of their models and I threw them in the garbage. I wouldn't even be bothered to sell them. This is what I think of Atlantic Models!
As for Westway, they do such great work that I will commission them to do 2 models for me. Maybe my good luck with them will continue. But I still don't understand it!!! Some collectors swear by Atlantic models and some hate them. Some collectors love Westway and some hate them. It is so confusing and hard to understand.

Anyway, I needed to share this. So fire at me if you wish. I turned 65 last week and I am now officially a Senior, so don't be too hard :-)

Hello Senior Al, congrats on turning 65, may you have 65 more ahead of you! I am so sorry you are having a hard time with Atlantic Models, I too have heard quite a bit of negative feedback on them, I have done only two projects with them and I have one more pending, I wont say any more after that. But I must say good for you in taking your destiny in your hands!!! You decided to take charge instead of becoming a victim to the challenges encountered when dealing with the limited amount of model makers out there!

Hey, maybe you will be the next new Westway or Atlantic or Pacmin?

I have always had an excellent experience dealing with them, as for collectors I would probably rip my hair out dealing with some of the stupid requests they want as well as wanting to pay virtually nothing for fine work. I e heard stories of collectors ranting about colours being off on their models but as a airline pilot I can tell you that if you think all airplanes look the same when painted then your crazy. Different variants are used all the time even in certain types of white. Rather than emailing if your so serious, maybe spend the buck to call and get a answer to your question. It's sad people bash a small company that turns out excellent work, I'd be hard pressed to find another company with the hand skill Doug has at Westway. My two cents.
