I was thinking that and wonder if anyone has alerted the BA Museum?
Very commendable starting the bidding at 99p, but indeed where would you put it? Scale is 1/87th also so does not fit in with any diecast models.

It's incredible the model only sold for 56 pounds. If you added a couple zeros to the price, it wouldn't have been totally outrageous.

hi everyone, it is going to me, after seeing the listing i figured that the seller had got his sizes wrong so after some google searching i found the model makers site and it is 1.200 scale, so after some calculations i was hoping for a size of around 9 foot x 6 foot which was a great deal smaller than the stated 16 ft x 6 ft 6 inches, i had to pass his way last week so i went to see it and to measure up properly, the overall size turned out to be 8 ft x 6 ft 2 inches so i paid him and i`m picking it up on friday, the other picture in the listing was the compass building which in real life is a lot smaller than T5 so i think that one could be 1.87th scale, just shows that if you list things wrongly you don`t get the true worth of the item,

£90,000 cost and sold for £56, Sounds like a project built by the UK government and sold off years later to private bidders, I would have bid had i known it existed and was much smaller, I think the huge dimensions scared everybody away.

Well done jagman.

i presume it was british airport authority (BAA) who ordered it in the first place before the building was built, it still has the makers name on it, when i get it back i will try to get some more info on the model, cost and when it was made, etc, that`s if they are willing to talk to me,

got it back to my place on friday afternoon, bad news was that it needed 8 blokes to unload it, good news is that it was made in 2 halves, with the join running from the 2nd jumbo into the building, at least i can display half of it when i unbolt it all on monday, there was also a base and domed perspex cover with the sale, both of these can also be un- bolted and stored away, i have to say it`s better than i thought ,hundreds of model cars and a few thousand model people, even shows underneath the underground trains, all lights up with loads of electrics underneath, i talked to the owner of the storage building where this was stored, he was employed to remove it, i said i was going to contact the model makers to get a bit more history on it, but he advised not to as he has already spoken to them and they were disapointed that it only fetched £56, i asked him if this had cost the £90k as stated on the listing and he said that was wrong and he was told that the models cost was £102k

spent all day taking apart the outer sub frames all bolted together but a pig to get to,got to see better inside views, unfortunately even one half of the model is very heavy with all the electrics and fiber optic transformers underneath so i had no option to box the 2 halves up and put it into storage at my workplace, at least it has gone to a very heavy 2 man lift from an 8 man lift to begin with, felt like the ending of the indiana jones film when the ark was being put into storage

I see where your coming from, but painting it would be a bad idea IMHO, it would probably knock a lot of value off this incredible model (aside from the fact that the amount of paint needed to coat this would be unbelievable )
