Made a mistake on the number of civilian planes! Out of the 103 are.

DC-9
C-130 Alaska
AN-124 2
IL-76 6 Cuba

So that makes 10. Still the 100 Mark, but at 93 Military planes

I am compiling a military aircraft collection of my own. I was wondering where you got your C-9's or C-32 from. I usually shop at either flyingmule.com or racersdeninc.com. Also if interested, you can see my list under the "Military Models - Archive" forum. I have about 150+ different U.S. military aircraft now, but I don't have a C-9 or C-32 yet.

Was to the racersdeninc.com and I see that your collection must be in 1/35 or 1/72.

I bring this up because! we are in the 1/400 scale

Last month I made the statement that I hit the 100 mark in Military planes, but I forgot that 10 of the planes are civilian planes that I use.

Well I'm waiting for another C-130 of the Belgian AF to come in and that will make 100 plane mark

Excellent display of military aircraft. Perhaps you will go for 150 now that you have obtained 100? Glad to see there are more military aircraft out there to purchase.

Hey Commuter:

The biggest problem I face is the repeat of planes! Just how many of the C-17s, C5As, C-130s do you want. I'm in it for the fun of just collecting, unlike maybe most to at least make some cash out of it.
The only way for me to make anything is when am died and the wife sells off and ive got to hope that, thats 20 years down the road.
There is a few planes down the road, but for now they are in the $40.00 and for thar I still can pick up 3 C-130s.
Cost still play's a big part of collecting, also space is the other part. I not only have the 1/400, but also 1/700, 1/300 & 1/144 in both Modern and WW2.
I have been thinking of kicking the WIFE out and sleeping on the sofa, just so I could have the master bedroom. Think I better go have another shot & a beer

Good luck with the kicking of the wife out for more space, lol. I am running out of space also. Not sure what I am going to do though, since i don't have a wife anymore to kick out. In response to earlier messages, no not all of my collection is 1:400. I wish they all were, so I could have more space, but with my weird goal of having one of each U.S. Military aircraft, I can't limit myself to certain scales. For what it is worth though, I did post my list of aircraft, and recently added photos in the military archive thread.

Your right and its cheaper to! since I'm also spending her money on the planes.

Question: which is better, for now I have 8 C5As and 16 C-17s. Am I better to do 4 C5s and 8 C-17s or go out and get another C5 and 2 C-17 to do 3 C5As and 6 C-17s to a base.
I would also ad a number of C-130s as well

Actually, the number of aircraft you have would be what's at a fairly large airbase. I was stationed at Altus AFB in the '80s, and we had 12 C-5As, 18 C-141Bs and 10 KC-135s.

Afternoon Guy's

Been can of quiet here. I was able to pick up 2 AWACs, 1 a French and the other a Japan. haven't seen to much on military planes, but what was out there was more then what I wanted to spend. right now theres a KC-10 /F117 that over $41.00 and there was a C5A that solded for $52.00, thats more then $20.00 more then I was getting them off ebay from Hong Kong.

Sad part about all of this is that I'm going to take the 400 planes down and pack them away for a while.

Going to put up 1/44, both modern and WW2.

I have the chances from a friend to find where he gets his bubble wrap pack, so I can protect each plane, from dents and other things.

Just running out of room, ive got 12 planes still in package yet to go on the field. Must do the 16 C-17ss, 8 C5A, 2 Anl-124, 2 command 747s and 6 IL-76 and maybe the 8 KC-135s and KC-10s.

Thats some 50 planes, leaving another 50 plus, but smaller planes of which I'm spending more time on collecting.

Couldn't sleep the other nite so I sat there thinking just how much room I would need to place all my planes on.

I started with 2 full sheets of plywood (64sq') side by side 8'long, 8' wide.

Now, because of the C5As wings I allaw for a 8" taxi runway on the bottom, left side and on top. Then starting on the bottom I allaw the 8's then a parking area of 7's X 7's X 4 and the planes would be tail to tail. Then another 8' taxi, with another 14' X 28 parking.

After 2 parking areas, you come to 44" and then you could do a middle of the plywood taxi runway, just like the top and bottom, you also can do the same to the right side, because you also would have 2 taxis at 16' and 1 parking area at 28" = 44''s.

That leaves the 2nd sheet of plywood with 44"s X 8'. Now on the far right side of the sheet I would make the take off and landing and make that 12" by 8'.

Coming off the middle taxi way, i wanted to make a little parking area for cars and some grass, then about something like 8" wide and 36" long to fit between the 3 Taxi ramps, top middle and bottom For hangers.

Last, whats left between the hangers and the main runway for smaller planes like the 707 fleet and the C-130s.

You would have two parking areas that would be 24" by 36".

I still wouldn't have the needed room to support my 110 plane fleet....

OUCH

Afternoon:
One and all, kinda of sad that I'm about the only guy here posting anything. The summer hasn't gone to the dog's as I'm still after Military 1/400 planes.

Ive been able to get 2 more C5s and 2 C-17s and 2 AN-124.
That brings the C5s to 10, the C-17s to 20 and the AN-124s to 5. Forgot to add one more KC-10 with F-16.

So far ive only been able to pack away! the largest planes, so I have 3 more to packed away.

I did get storage bins for the next 2 groups of planes.

Now that I'm done for a while, lets hear from the rest of you guy's

Hello Again:

Just my getting the 2nd AL-1, I may have to put the darm 1/400s back up again.
I won a auction for a set of 4 planes today
1 E-4B
1 C-40B and a C
1 C-32

Then today before winning the 4, I took a RAAF E-3D, and today in the mail came my KC-10A with F-16.

At the rate I'm going I'll hit 150 before the end of the year

True scale maybe off, but on a lay out next to C5As or C-17s should be right at home. Plus they have wheels.

I live in WI about 45 miles N by NE of Green Bay, home of the NFL Packers.

I have 1 C5A, some 14 C-17s and about 20 C-130.

Just today for $100.00 with shipping I picked up 4 DWs, a KC-135E, a KC-10 /B2, a E3A and a Tenn C-130.

I would lovee to talk to anyone about a airfield some where with a surface area of 2' X 6' to park the planes.

Down the road I want to get 3 more C-130s, the IDF, RAF and the NAF

Anyway's he also sell's 1/400 and i came across two C-5As Grey/White for $24.95 and took both. He also had a Green/Grey, but ive got 6 of those.

Willing to trade 1 for a solid Grey

I have started in building my own Air Base, as my collection is growing and growing weekly. I currently have 62 military aircraft in scale 1:400, all different tail numbers, like 16 C-17's, 4 C-5's (+2 recently ordered), many C-130's, KC-10's, KC-135's, E-3/E-6/E-8 and of course a VIP ramp. As I do want to show you the process of building my own airport, I want to know if I can continue on this thread or do I have to start a new one?

Hello Dennis:

Quess this place is as good as a another one! I started because I wanted C-17s and from there it opened a whole new field to collect from. Only trouble is room.

I put up a 2 x 4' sheet of 3/4 plywood up from my train lay out and still ran out of room.

I don't have a full basement, but even if I did, and did a table with 2 sheets of 4 x 8' and put them side by side to form a new table that would be 64sq feet.

You need ramp's or whatever they are called. But I figure that you would have a 8" ramp all around the parking area, plus 1 top, middle and bottom.

This would be on a 4 x 8'. So then it wented like this, starting from a side! I had a ramp that ran from left to right at 8" and this also looped to form a big E or a square 8.

Now that gave me 4 parking area that where 16" x 32" or room for 8 C5A, An-124s, C-17s and last IL-76.

This took care of just 1 sheet, next I had to leave room for Hangers which was done by haveing the ramps come out to the main field on bothe ends and in the middle and thus the hangers in between

On the far end would be the main runway, some grass and then then other parking area.

But again there isn't much room left for the other planes like the fleet of 707s, C-130, VIP planes etc.
