Have I walked into a time warp? These were published ages ago, and the September releases have now been announced. As for finally seeing the U-2, another slip in time. I’ve had one for over a month with another on the way. The ER-2? Let’s see if it they do it right and don’t just produce a white U-2.

Hey ho, back to real time for me.

Wondering if HM will deliver this SU-30SM with corrected nose landing gear and not with that screwed NLG that appeared on prototype photos. Any infos on it from HM?

HM SU-30SM prototype:

Real SU-30SM:

And of course - there´s again the notorious horizontal nose division line problem with this mold.
To be honest, in case of Flankers (both 1 and 2seaters), I could personally probably even live with this nose division line (which HM uses to maximise their profits due to less metal in the mold and less weight), because the nose division line on Flanker is relatively short, but what really makes me angry is that HM - typically for them - always opt for the cheapest possible route, here by making the division line horizontal and not sloped, to save costs twice ..... and thereby destroying the typical downward look of the Flanker.

On their SU-35s line-up, HM at least painted the triangle on the nose to optically improve that drooped look (destroyed by the horizontal division line), anyway this triangle is missing on SU-30SM artwork.
To be fair, I must admit that the drooped nose demarcation line between upper and lower color is not so notable on "03" RF-95819 as on Navy eggplant SU-30SMs, and from some angles it almost looks like the nose upper / lower demarcation line on the "03" is almost horizontal, but still some droop is clearly there, roughly in the angle of the nose pitot tube - see links below.

Btw:
- is it really problem for HM to paint the insides of exhaust nozzles matt white on SU-30, SU-35 and many other modern jets?
- is it really problem for HM to mold HUD displays from greenish plastic instead of clear?
- why HM models do always have glossy tires? Is it really problem for HM to paint the tires matte black instead of gloss?

Visibly drooped nose demarcation line on Navy SU-30SM:

I’ve heard nothing on the subject. I’m losing quite a few HM battles at the moment. Perhaps I’m fighting on too many fronts.

Yup, all those things are a problem for HM, and every change has to be fought for tooth and nail. Matte black (and many other paints) seems a problem. It’s not just tyres. Even the F-117 and U-2 seem to have a bit of a sheen to them.

i was going to say the same, as i had peeked under my block of those people to see what they were on about, but then decided to just let them go.

as it were, the september releases are 'ok.' nothing too exciting - all stuff that is fine, but that perhaps can be declined by those of us with already hefty collections. That said, i might ask my retailer to change my pre-order from the "camo" EA6B from the one with the teeth to the one without simply for aesthetic preference.

Lets hope that also other collectors will care about how their model will finally look.

What a funny looking jet that Flanker is. It looks like it’s dry-heaving

LeBourget "305" Flanker will probably be interesting release.
Anyway Hobby Master should make themselves clear which model they actually want to release, as 2005 Su-27SKM "305" didn´t have formation lights under the canopy and on the tails in Le Bourget, nor in MAKS.

Also, something tells me that there might be a problem with front IRST sensor. Size and position of IRST sensor on HM artwork indicates that Hobby Master probably thinks that IRST is just forward of the cockpit as first SU-27s had. Anyway, "305" had IRST offset to the right, and much bigger in size than from HM artwork appears!

Im looking forward to the Su 30. I do wish Hobby Master would concentrate more on operational schemes rather than airshow schemes on russian planes

i will be passing this one up and looking forward to the more 'obscure' releases like Uganda, Vietnam and Algeria for example.

That would be nice. Unfortunately HM up to now, are not especially renowned for producing African themed aircraft. But let`s hope they change tack, and take a leaf out of JC`s book. As there are some very colourful and interesting schemes from many African countries.

Also, Calibre's tooling is F-14A only so far, specifically it has glove vanes whereas the D does not. The Calibre F-14 tooling will be adapted at a point in the future to do D models, but it doesn't exist just yet.

That said, I would take a Calibre early 'A' model VF-2 Bounty Hunters bird any day over HM's HA5210. Preferably in the first cruise livery.
