Default Herpa Wings C-5A Galaxy Dover AFB (HE-571081)

This one just landed in my collection:

Herpa Wings
Lockheed C-5A Galaxy
USAF 436th AW Eagle Wing, #69-0014, Dover AFB, DE
1:200 Scale (Item: HE-571081)

This is a large model, at 1:200 Scale its about 15" long and 13.25" Wide. Although made of resin, it's still have a bit of a weight to it (1.1 lb). This is my first C-5 from Herpa Wings, I wanted to get this color scheme instead of the all gray livery. However, I cannot say I'm impressed with the model: the model does have it's fair share of problems (just like the real aircraft). First the wings and horizonal stabilizers are too "thick" in my opinion, it reminds me of a mahogany wood model. I noticed most of the metal landing gear were bent in weird angles and the cockpit printing isn't leveled straight either. that horizontal stabilizer seems to be angled down more than it should. Not to mention a piece of the antenna is missing on top. In addition after removing the screw at the bottom of the model...a lot of white flakes came out. Not sure what the white flakes are...paint chips or resin? Either way, this might be my one and only C-5 from Herpa if this is the quality. Here's some pictures:

Shame with the landing gear and yes, the horizontal stab does look tired, anyway, maybe its the way how you photograph your models but on your photos it looks like a really nice model. Definitely better than any grey livery.

I’ve had this on pre order for some time, still looking forward to receiving it, I have a fenwicks C-5B in grey and this will be my only Herpa stablemate, ordered as its the two tone C-5A. Thanks for the write up and photos!

Good looking model. A friend of mine owns a hobby shop and he ended up straightening a lot of the MG's on the copies he received. But it is fixable.

I would have like HG to come out with a C-5. 250EUR is way too expensive for what you get. At this price I would expect a certain level of accuracy.
Plus: as it was said before, the model looks like being made of very expensive material.

Man it’s a shame about the quality of the model. I’m usually one to overlook inaccuracies in models, even 1/72 models where they’re easier to spot. In 1/200 modes, inaccuracies seem even less apparent, but the ones on this one are pretty obvious, especially the janky landing gear.

With the price that Herpa is asking on these 1/200 C-5s, they should not have that level of issues. They aren’t even diecast to boot.

I’ve been wanting a Travis AFB C-5 in this scale, and have hoped that Herpa will release one. I hope they fix these issues to some degree on future releases.

The stand looks like the Italian manufacturer of models Fratelli?
Did think initially was based on the PCM model.
Does look nice in the white top scheme.

I just received the C-5A. I did have to reattach three of the main gear doors. Luckily, they did not scratch the model during shipping. The cockpit windows on my example are nice and even, unlike the photos above. Overall it is a great model. This is a great addition to the C-5M that Herpa made earlier. Happy to have both in my collection.
