Talking Just getting into the hobby with the new f-14!

Hey all!

Happy to join this forum and learn some new things. I have been flying RC place most of my 41 years and used to collect the really crappy 1/72 models you would find in Walmart etc. Now that I am flying RC jets and acquired my childhood favorites (f-14, f-15, f-4, su-27, a-10) I suddenly started looking up what the small scale models were like nowadays. WOW. Things have come a long way since I bought them in the late 90's/early 2000's. I seem to have noticed that JC Wings and Hobby Master seem to be the crowd faves. I also came across a brand today called Forces of Valor. Can anyone tell me anything about that brand? Their f-14 looks pretty nice to me.

I also wanted to ask for any leads on a nice glass display cabinet for these. Maybe one that will hold 6-10 of them to start. This is really the best thing I came across for a reasonable price: https://www.amazon.com/Monarch-Speci...0QUEEK7O&psc=1

My first purchase was the new JC Wings Jolly Rogers F-14 and it should be here any day! I ordered from Waffle Collectables. The only complaint is that their site is really hard to search. They need an option to show you JUST the things that are in stock. I've also been looking at Flying Mule and Vlads toys. Just curious on opinions. My next purchase will be an f-15E, but not sure by who yet. Anyhow, thanks for tolerating my questions and here's the planes I fly!

Welcome to the Forum! Wow! Your R/C aircraft are amazing! And i thought i didn`t have room!!! Are they made mainly out of dense foam, with ducted fans as propulsion? Love your Bounty Hunters F-14 and the finish on your Mig-21.

I don`t think you can go wrong with Hobbymaster, Century Wings, Calibre Wings or JC Wings F-14`s. Some manufacturers are better than others for particular aircraft types, some more accurate, some not so. Depends what you are looking for in a model. (Price, paint scheme, accuracy). I don`t have any Forces of Valor F-14`s, as in my opinion they are inferior to the manufacturers i have mentioned, in build quality and paint finish. Best to search forums like this, and find out how people are rating aircraft you are interested in before purchasing. I like HM and Century Wings F-14`s personally. But at the end of the day, if you like it, buy it!

Good luck with your collecting. Once you start, it`s hard to stop!!

Thank you Carlo! Yes, the RC F-14 is made by a company called FreeWing and sold by Motion RC in the US. It is the 'Bullet 101' Bounty Hunter done up in the Tomcat 25th anniversary celebration. She is a handful to fly, but I love it so much! They are made of dense EPO foam and powered by Electric Ducted Fans. They are fast! Some going well over 130mph.

Thanks for your advice on the models. I just started looking into Century Wings and OH BOY. I think I will have another tomcat very shortly. They all look fantastic actually.

I just received my JC Wings Jolly Rogers from Waffle Collectibles. There was one broken piece (Ventral fin) but I think I can glue it pretty easily. It also only came with one pilot but that's ok. One question I have is about installing the pilons/missiles etc. In your experience are they pretty fragile? The contact points seem very fragile and don't go in very easily and I'm afraid to break the nubs. I also didn't realize these don't come with stands! DOH! I really love the detail and weathering on this thing!

Unfortunately JC wings do not come with stands. As for the pylon mountings. Don`t try and force the pylon lugs in else they may break. Most manufacturers pylon mounting lugs may need a little sanding from time to time. Test fit as you go. Most of my JC Su-27UB/30`s pylons needed a little sanding to fit properly. The Calibre Wings Su-24 in particular need some work. If you have a loose one, i find smearing a tiny amount of super glue on the lug and letting it dry rock hard will usually do the trick. Or just blu-tac will do too.

You can`t go wrong with Century Wings or HM F-14`s. Though they aren`t usually weathered. Checkout the Calibre Wings F-14`s. They are excellent, and usually have weathered versions too. I myself prefer the HM/Century Wings Tomcats as they come with good display stands, and their pylon mountings are better than Calibre`s. (Century Wings are basically the same mould as the Hobbymaster F-14`s but usually come with more options). And are more expensive as a consequence.

Revisionist your 'Bones' F-14 is beautifully weathered! Great job! And your TF-30's are in the open position which always looks awesome! Pure beast mode!!
