Default Calibre Wings Su-24 "Blue 91"

Very excited today. Got up early from the N/Shift eagerly awaiting the postie, expecting a large parcel! My Cal Wings "Blue 91" Russian `Suitcase` had arrived! After un-packing it i took some photo`s. Sorry they`re not very good. It`s early.

I was a bit worried about what i`d find, as both my Wave1 Sukhoi`s had some defect or other, but my apprehension was thankfully un-warranted. The model is absolutely perfect. No paint defects at all. Build quality spot on. Wing sweep nice and tight. And, the scoops are the right way round too!(Phew). The model comes with the standard loadout for the Cal W "M" Su-24 package. (ELINT pods[?], rocket pods, AAM`s and drop tanks). Two sets of wing glove pylons, Fenced and Un-fenced are included.

Thank you Cal Wings!

I`ve always wanted this Demonstrator Su-24 colour scheme. It`s my favourite, and i`m super pleased it`s all turned out great! What`s more to ask for? Here`s waiting for the Ukrainian digi Chemodan!

For anyone wondering by the way, this one is one of their first models with magnets, used for the gears. It's pretty nice - no more worries about the gears having a bad fit!

Now they just need to get that going for the weapons and other attachments...

All the Su-24`s from Wave1 onwards have had magnet`s for their undercarriage, and gear `up` option. Please see my thread on this aircraft if you want to mount "magnetic weapon" attachment points to them.

One thing I was sad to not see in AC7 was the sp2 livery of the tomcat in AC X. It was nice and I'd use it all the time.

Oh dear - dark brown fields wrong, side pitots bent, bort numbers "16" completely upside down ...... just joking

Actually its amazing piece of diecast, worth every cent! I´m also very happy with my weathered "White 30" MR.

At some point in the past I was bit angry with someone who said that diecast models are toys. But during the time I had to slightly revise my opinion:
in terms of shape, overall impression, accuracy and detail level - yes, HM diecast are toys. Calibre Wings are models.

I finally got round to painting the AB-100`s on the Magnet modded `Blue 91` to represent the practice bombs, often seen on this demonstrator aircraft. I`m very pleased with how they`ve turned out, and gives the aircraft a bit more appeal and colour i think. I used Humbrol Matt 109 Enamel paint if anyone is interested in doing the same. This is definitely my favourite Su-24 colour scheme. Thank you Calibre Wings!

No they're not, not all of them are.

Carlo, I bombed mine up for display the same way but it looks WAY better with all the bombs painted like the source material! Nice job. I noticed you put the wing glove pylon fences on, was that necessary because of the magnet mods?

Hi. Thanks for the kind comments. No. It`s just that i prefer the fenced pylons with this particular scheme. Sort of a cross between `Blue 91 & Blue 93` i guess. The magnet mods can be done for any pylon. I chopped the ELINT pod`s wing pylons in half (Lengthways!)to get the correct wing pylon fitting for the AB 100 mounting point too. It would be nice if CalWings would do `Blue 93` with the ECM dispencer Glove pylons.

If you`re interested, please see my thread:- Code Carlo4 Su-24; "Magnetic" Ho Ho!!!

I just have to add, that I love mine too! Does anyone know if the IRIAF SU-24 is still coming out with all that shenanigans happening at Cal W?

Let`s hope so! As i`ve mentioned in a previous post, i`m still concerned about the Wave3 Ukraine digital camo Su-24 i`ve had on pre-order from June last year. The Mule have a release date for this for June 2022. Although the UK does seem to be supplied sooner than the U.S. I did receive a reply from my retailer here in the UK today when i asked about the Ukraine release. Here`s what i received:-

Quote:
HI Carl,

To be honest, we are as much in the dark as the consumer.

We have not had information from the UK importer of any changes or any release schedules for Calibre Wings.

Until we are advised a release date we cannot say when this will be released.

Kind regards

Jumblies Models
Hopefully it`s because of this crazy year we have just had. That said, all of the previous Su-24 Wave`s have been released in pairs. Since i received my first Wave3 `Blue91` back at the beginning of March, i`m a little concerned.

I think the best bet is to look at other CalW models that are due now, and see if those are indeed released. In the meantime i live in hope!

Since i`ve been painting the AB-100 bombs for my `Blue 91` Su-24, i decided to make a new pylon, and convert an AB-100 bomb rack so i could mount them centreline in tandem on the aircraft. This is impossible to do on the CalW`s Sukhoi out of the box as the pylon`s are far too close together, not to mention the rear mount is a lot lower than the front as well!

First I made a new front pylon out of plastic so it would be at the the same level as the models rear hard-point. Next i installed a magnet into the top of the pylon. I then glued the pylon to the AB-100 bomb rack.

Second thing to do was to move the attachment points on the rear AB-100 rack forwards in order to create enough space to have both AB-100 racks in tandem. Not quite... I had to shorten the forward part of the rear rack somewhat too.

Calibre Wings Su-24 "Blue 91"-rscn3299.jpg

As you can see in the photo I had to mount the magnet and rear lug a fair ways forward in order to get the whole unit to sit further back on the aircraft`s rear hard-point. (I would have preferred using a magnet for the rear, but the rear hole in the model is a lot bigger than the 1mm magnets i am using).
Just needs a bit of finishing and painting now.

All bombed up and ready to go....!!!!
