Default Corgi B-17G Flying Fortress "Snake Eyes"

Hi Guy's, I have a few 1/72 scale military models fighters & helicopters, in my collection, but I have never had any bombers so this one is the first, and I must say Corgi have done a great job with the detail, opening bomb bay doors, moving gun turrets, and the choice of the landing gear up or down and of course it comes with a stand, this particular model is a B-17G Flying Fortress named "Snake Hips" and served with the 327th Bombardment Squadron, 92nd bombardment Group, from Podington, 24th August 1944.

well CONGRATS on your first bomber steve! sadly despite nearly 20 releases corgi have never done a bomber camo command model. only a coastal command white/grey so far.

so for time being i have an excellent kit model. hope corgi do theirs eventually as good as this!!

Steve congrats on your corgi B-17 purchase! I'm at my limit of Corgi B-17s, but the one you chose is a nice one. Your photos are perfectly good, but for the benefit of others I think it worth noting that corgi b-17s are much better in person than they are in the photos because Corgi releases have a sort of inherent quality to them. That also said, objectively the mould is definitely showing its age and so its a pity that the logical potential successor to it, AF1's B-17, is so mediocre.

"Snake Hips" is also a great name.

Nice local to me model.

Would really want a Grafton Underwood as my father-in-laws cousin was the first civilian killed when a b17 overshot and hit his delivery van. Bizarre but true.

Very nice! I have no modeling experience so the Corgis are my only option. I just pre-ordered Snake Eyes from the Mule with a 20% pre-order discount.

By the way don't know how good the colors are but as far as a camo B-17 there is Yankee Doodle: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Corgi-Boein...Condition=1000

I only collect mostly british models. nearest camo is the green/grey/white COASTAL COMMAND.

and that yankee doodle b-17 is WAAAYYYY overpriced. usually around £100 mark.

Heh, heh, I pretty much only collect American models. The only exceptions being the Spitfire (best f-ing plane of WW2!) and the Lancaster, which I have yet to acquire. Which Lancaster would you recommend? There's a new one that I'm eyeing for pre-order: https://www.flyingmule.com/products/CG-AA32627. Expensive, yes, but at least you get 20% discount if you pre-order and only $5 shipping in the US.

Considering they should be the same as RAF camouflage. That underside colour is dubious:

If you ever get chance to visit East Kirkby museum, please do. It`s excellent. (You`ll probably see Typhoons flying too from nearby Coningsby).

The Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington, near York is a must visit also. It has a beautiful Halifax (Note:not all original) in the excellent `Friday the 13th` markings. As well as aircraft, such as, Vulcan, Victor, Nimrod, F6 lightning, Buccaneer.. to name but a few. I have the Corgi model of this Halifax and it`s wonderful.

Yes, it`s a fair way for a day trip. Same here with Yeovil Fleet Air Arm museum, which i love. However, if you make a weekend of it to `Bomber County` you can add the excellent Newark Air Museum near Lincoln too. (Below)I`m always there! Although mainly Post war types abound.

I nearly bought `Vicky` but decided against as i need room for my ever expanding Japanese and Russian collection. I`ll probably regret it when they become un-available. I have the big three Corgi Brit bombers, `Mickey the Moocher` Lanc, and a Stirling, so that`ll do me, at present. I love the Stirling aircraft. The front fuselage/nose has a menacing look to it! Just like the Victor. Nice find on the Coastal Command B-17!! A bargain for sure.
