Default Hobbymaster May 2021 Releases

Hobbymaster May2021 releases. Nothing too exciting. The big takeaway from this release list is that hobbymaster is fully committed to re-running popular releases from its past. What this means is that if you have a "rare" HM release, it's not a bad idea to try to sell it if you think that HM may re-run it at some point; I'm guessing the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds Phantoms are high up on the 'likely to be re-releases' list.

The "MiG-eater" tornado was widely predicted by many, including me. I think HM's will be good, though obviously not weathered. A long time ago i had crudely weathered my corgi equivalent with graphite pencil and not much else.. it was "ok."

Beyond that, i'd get "death angels" phantom if i didn't already have it. I may also go for the dutch falcon. I suppose the german phantom might be of interest to some.

I collect JASDF phantoms, but will certainly pass on this one. Far far too similar to other recent releases.

Judging by similar franklin mint releases, the 2 me109s will bomb unless hm releasese them in tiny quantities, which they might.

The two "D-day memorial" F-15 schemes are so ugly it hurts the eyes.

In other news the pre-pros are out for the 2 yellow USAF texans. As I've flown similar liveried T-6s and SNJs quite a bit, I'm happy to get both. However, I gotta say that the pre-pros show a very worn out mould. Think back to how tight and well detailed the early yellow HM T6s were - go to the HMC site and look at HA1502. The quality differences between that early release and these "eeking the last few dollars out of the mould" releases are obvious to anybody with eyes. And, to add insult to injury, the earlier releases cost less than a third than the current ones.

The AMI Tornado is coming my way - for sure.

The legendary Op Granby Tonka is nice as well.

Hope they get that 'pink' correct.

Nothing here to part with my cash, unfortunately.(Fortunately for my wallet). I agree, the `D` day F-15`s aint pretty IMHO.

I’m all over that Canadian Hornet. I’ve wanted this Arctic scheme for a long time. I didn’t expect we’d ever see it since the scheme is nearly nine years old.

Just seen the photo`s of the HM IRIAF Mig-29. Is it me, or is the blue positively fluorescent?!! Maybe it`s just the light. Hope the F-14 fares better..

Here is the first - provisional - HM pre-pro image taken in different light:

The blue looks bit less poisonous, but still rather bright imho. Will wait for the final photos and comments from collectors.

Generally IRIAF Mig-29s have bit toned down blue, see the last photo. The blue shade is varying however from picture to picture, there are even photos with similar heavy shade of blue as HM - see below. But it can be due to light, exposure, shutter speed etc.

I thought HM simply repeates the same coloring scheme as they used on IRIAF RF-4E. It was my plan then to display both models side by side. If the colors will be much different or too heavy, I´ve saved some money.

P.S:
When looking for pictures, I´ve found this beautiful photo:

Yes, i see what you mean about lighting. I`ll keep my fingers crossed then, as i really want the HM IRIAF F-14 to be great. Nice photo of those `burners`.

Iranian aircraft seem to feature large color variations. Observe these F-14s:

Yes. Unfortunately, light colours accentuate the join line more so. May need filler and paint after all! I `I love filler!`

Another chance to search from older releases this month.

Carlo, I´ve heard from diecast cars collectors that on the long run modelling fillers tend to fall out from the zinc material, that modelling putties do not adhere well to zinc. Do you have any long lasting experience with any good filler?

Hi.
Yes. I swear by Milliput. In fact it`s the only filler i use. Use the `Superfine` variety. I can`t recommend it enough. You can shape it for quite a long time before it sets rock hard after 12 hours or so. But the beauty of it is, you can use water to soften it further and shape it to contours on your models. I`ve used it for 30 years now and i`m addicted to the stuff! (See my Su-30 mod). I`ve used it on that.

Thanks, Carlo.

I can´t find the information about those reported problems I´ve heard of long-lasting performance of fillers on zinc models. Just for the reference: in your case - how old is now your first "puttied" zinc model?

I`d say about 6 years or so. Milliput is designed to work on plastic/metal/out-door use for plugging storage tanks. It sets underwater too. I can`t give you any info on other fillers, as i don`t use any other.

This is what it says about it on their website:-

Quote:
Why Milliput?
The Most Versatile Material Available. It is:

Self hardening
Non shrinking
Tough and durable
Sets underwater
Electrically insulating
Water, heat and chemical resistant
Highly adhesive to most materials
Moulds like putty - sets like rock
I`m putting the filler straight over the painted surface, not sanding it down to the base metal. It says it doesn`t shrink, and up to now i haven`t had any issues. I wouldn`t think the model would be exposed to such extreme temperatures as to crack anyway. Even if it did, i`d just fill the crack and re-paint. No biggy.
