Default HM Eurofighter EF-2000 Typhoon, Luftwaffe HA6602

This one just landed in my collection from the FlyingMule:

Hobby Master
HM Eurofighter EF-2000 Typhoon, Luftwaffe JG 74, HA6602
Eurofighter EF-2000 Typhoon S
Luftwaffe JG 74, 30+83, Neuburg AB, Germany, 2013
Item: HA6602
1/72 Scale

I've been waiting a long time for a good Eurofighter model, I've always skipped Corgi's release because of the dull looking nose and JC Wings/Witty Wings didn't quite make the cut either so finally Hobby Master came out with theirs. Since I recently got the Luftwaffe MiG-29, this was a no-brainer for me. I really like this model, very sleek and beautiful. The ordinance though with the two large Tarus KEPD-350 air-launch cruise missiles might be a little unconventional but hey...it looks cool. Here's some pictures:

That looks stunning. Especially next to the Mig-29 too. I was going to limit myself to RAF Typhoons only, but seeing yours i`m not so sure now!

I see they've corrected the wheels by adding the black centre fans this time.

Yup wished they included some wing tanks. But it's not a deal breaker. The model looks superb. They really nailed it. Definitely one of HM's bests this year.

Weird release.
I was about to say that missing wing tanks is strange as that's THE standard.
But I see that the model doesn't even depict a JG74 airframe - well, kind off..
It already sports the "R" on the front, meaning it was already handed over to the JG71 (better say TaktLwGrp"R") with the JG74 patch just not removed in time. Something that would have never happened at the JG74 I'd say. We always immediately removed the previous patches.

Storm shadows look nice, but don't go together with a JG74 airframe.

Just for the fun of it... some of my pictures showing what realistic and commonly used configs for 74 birds can look like:

- wing tanks, training pod and IRIS-T dummy

- the same with an additional LDP in center (and usually HEA-helmet for the pilot)

- three-tanker

- quick reaction alert config with wing tanks and IRIS-T

I admit I have yet avoided to buy a 1/72 fighter - I'm too anxious that I might like them.
Expensive thought looking at the available lineup...

...but how does the HM €F compare to the Herpa?
From what I saw in available pics I'd need to decide between deep grooves vs. strange cockpits and nozzles. Or are those pics deceiving?

The `stepped` portion where the fuselage meets the nozzles is what put me off purchasing Herpa Typhoons. Shame, as they do some very nice schemes.

I have this pre-ordered. It remains to be seen if I keep or sell by Herpa version, which I certainly do not see as terrible.

HMs version is streets ahead of both Herpa and Corgi, and is by far the most accurate rendition of the Typhoon.

My two major concerns with the HM - as far as model pics tell - is the off looking cockpit section/canopy and those way too pronounced panel lines.
And in case of the above presented release the weird loadout and coloring.
Btw, did I really write StormShadows above? Taurus I meant. Not that it makes a differences

No, HM got the cockpit section & canopy right- it's off in the Herpa & Corgi versions. Everything where the basic shape is concerned is correct in the HM version.

Could well be the pictures then. I'm used to the looks of the real thing, but whenever I look at a models picture I have that feeling. Can't really point my finger. But I'm not saying the HM is bad, particularly not for a diecast fighter in this scale and price segment.
