Default Unistar Sikorsky MH-53E Sea Dragon US NAVY, 72A07C

This one just landed in my collection:

Unistar
Sikorsky MH-53E Sea Dragon
US NAVY
Item: 72A07C, 1/72 Scale

Unistar is a surprising new comer to the world of diecast, only really known in China. I bought their Sukhoi Su-57 before so I was somewhat aware of their quality level: very similar to Air Force 1 models. I always welcomed the idea of a large diecast MH-53E Sea Dragon model, the last one we had was made by Amercom/Atayla. That particular model the colors were off and there were a lot of details missing. I think what Unistar does it build on the existing mould because this one is very similar to Amercom/Atayla but much more detailed (just like how they utilized the original AF1 Su-57 model, they added more detail).

So I'm going to try and provide as many pictures as I can to give you an idea of what the model is like:

First the box Art, nothing fancy, just a thin cardboard box that incases the plastic housing.

This is everything it came with: note the smaller pieces like the refueling boom needs to be attached:

Some close-up Shots:

Sorry no opening ramp:

The Display stand is a bit weird, mine angles up in a sharp angle

But it is a massive beast compared to any aircraft, for example the F-35B

Overall quite pleased with this model, it does feel heavier compared to Amercom/Atayla's model and I do like the coloring and extra details on this one. I say it's a keeper!

Seriously thinking about adding one of these, but wondering where I can show it. Not much room in the man cave these days. I would prefer one like this which is a lighter gray gray color that is more current, but the older darker gray versions are easier to find and less money. Will probably pull the trigger soon.

Yep, I ordered it too and have been looking for one to add to my Heli collection for quite some time. I especially like the size. The 1/144 CH-53E Super Stallion Black Knights is a bit too small.

Wow that is a lovely looking model. Is it comprised mostly of plastic or is a good percentage diecast? Be good to see the Jolly Greens in this too!

It's completely plastic, but still very nice.

I'm very impressed with this Sikorsky MH-53E helicopter but the one i purchased is the 72A07A 'Vanguard' version and i love it!! i'm surprised how big it is, i compared it to my Corgi Boeing Chinook and it makes the Chinook look small in comparison..

Note: pictures belong to eBay seller: airland-model

Your p0ost inspired me to get one. I got the 'Blackhawks' version in a dark forest green. It is a really nice model.

I thought I wanted the light gray version also, but I'm really happy with the look of the dark green on the 'Blackhawks' version. It reminds me of the paint scheme that I was used to on the previous generation of CH-53's.

FYI, the 'Blackhawks' version is in the same color scheme as this one. I'm starting to prefer this over the light gray paint.

All PLASTIC ? I was hoping for a little metal like the FOV Osprey - some but not a lot. Well dang, this will be the first all 'plastic' helicopter in my collection. Shoot..

It's not green, I have one. It's dark grey. I got mine on eBay. Packaging is poor and being just plastic, it did suffer some (repairable) damage.

NOT ALL PLASTIC - The main fuselage from the pilots compartment to the tail section is die cast metal and has significant weight. Happy to add it to my collection. Recommended!

I've shortened the main rotor shaft (too long) and will skillfully add missing painted detailing.

US seller equals unavailable to the UK to all intents & purposes, because of the extortionate shipping from the US to the UK, import duty & VAT- the delivery costs amount to more than the cost of the model. What I meant was available from UK dealers.

Hello W77, would you like for me to reach out to seller and see what it might cost to get one to you?

I already know what the shipping costs work out like, it's too expensive. I can only afford UK internal shipping. If it's not available from UK dealers I can't afford it. Thanks anyway.

Sure! Pull the main rotor head up until it stops. Cut the rotor shaft off where it meets the lower collar. I used a fine tooth hobby saw but sharp wire cutters will do. Trim the rotor shaft to size - bit by bit until the upper collar meets the lower collar. Doing this will eliminate that awkward gap between the two collars and correctly space the main rotor from the helicopter.

The Flying Mule has similar CH-53's by a company called Panzerkampf. Apart from different aircraft serials, these look exactly the same as the Unistars. I'm assuming these are coming out of the same factory?

Sure enough, looks identical. From FM's pictures I see that manufacturing took care of that rotor shaft 'gap'. Much better - as well as the price. I wish they would have added more detail to the top of the main rotor head. (photo: scale modeler)
