After some thought.... I’m off the fence now....it’s a pass.

If I were to buy a U-2, I would only buy 1 anyway for my tastes and display space.

It would then have to be a Gary Powers U-2 or bust. The GP U-2 has a history that present offerings from CalW or HM don’t have.

So I probably won’t see 1/72 diecast GP U-2 in what’s left of my lifetime. I’m ok with that.

The o-n-l-y other U-2 .... I would buy, other than the GP U-2 is the U-2F 56-6676 flown by Rudolph Anderson during the Cuban missile crises.

Well, firstly I hope that Calibre can deliver something close to those date - with allowances for more unpredictable Wuhan virus delays. Secondly, I still haven't really got over my disappointment that both manufacturers have conspired to give us the same version of the aircraft. I don't buy into any BS about the competition being good for us collectors. Still, I am a big U-2 fan so provided they don't both [email protected]£& up I'll get a couple, and they'll probably both be from Calibre. Let's face it, HM will probably go for the "dumbed down" tooling. I'm only talking two or three models so the price difference is irrelevant. It's not like we're talking a collection of 50+ Phantoms or Tomcats.

Which releases? Something black and something white (NASA). Probably decide on one of these when the pre-pros come out. One to display in flight and one on the ground.

But really, both doing the same versions?

My bet is I will get a copy of HM's U-2 way before CW.

Check this out: https://hobbymastercollector.com/HA6901.html

Beside, it is much cheaper too.

The price on tfm is estimated but we can hope it’s good and it has a lowish price

CW hasn't announced one
CalW has though

If they come out as good as I hope at least one will join my collection, likely 'Scud Hound' but possibly a Senior Span release. Won't be going near the HM versions.

I believe you all will be very impressed by the CalW U-2R/S. It’s going to be, hopefully, one of the most detailed diecast military airplanes to date. That is obviously my opinion, but I hope time will prove me at least somewhat correct. I do not know what HM is doing, but I seriously doubt it will hold a candle to the CalWs U-2. I believe it will capture the unique modular nature of “The Deuce.”

Dragon Lady please. The Deuce is the rather less than stellar F-102.

I would like to be able to display a U-2S; the U-2R is not as spectacular. I estimate the wingspan is about the same as a 1/72 B-17, which would take up a lot of space in a display case

So far in reading .... depending on the version .... wingspan 103ft U2 and 105ft U2S ..... if correct and you use for example the 105ft for scaling 1:1 to 1:72 ... a model should have a wingspan of.....

Wingspan on Corgi AA33319 appears to be about 17.25"
