Easy Model Grumman Duck

Easy model is coming out with a plastic 1/48 grumman duck. TFM shows the first two releases to be an all blue US navy version and, because the kids out there are all clamoring for this, an argentine one in silver as well. here's the US navy one:

it's selling for around USD $50, which really is too much for this. at best, for any collector with any sense of quality whatsoever, this plastic thing would just be a starting point. it needs rigging. it needs not to have giant obvious plastic seams down the spine. it needs surface detail bits. it needs some sort of surface finish that isn't just "one coat of light blue spraypaint," . it will need engine detailing and a lot more. for some reason, the floats are unpainted! if it were metal, some of the sins would be forgivable, but for a $50 piece of plastic.. it's just too much.

In short, to get something decent out of this, you'll probably have to spend a day of effort to get it up to reasonable. which will be doable and you may come up with something ok. but ultimately the biggest problem will be the flat blue finish. you can simulate 'wear' by adding silver chipping, but then that's all it will ever look like - an amateur's modelling effort using a beginner technique.

Pre-ordered last night. I'll replace it with a die-cast one if one ever comes out. Hope they make more 1:48 scale planes that haven't been done yet.

pre-ordering an easy model at full price or close to it. there's a brave man! will be interesting to see more detailed pics when it's out. gotta admit despite loving mid-war and thereabouts usn aircraft, duck is not my fav. still indeed seems that no metal version of this is coming anytime soon, so will be def interested to see it from more angles.

indeed, that's a good coupon for general US preorders. but most easy model aircraft have eventually discounted to 50% or less.

Minimal detail & no rigging at that price? No ta- they can duck off! If HM or Corgi made one it might justify the extra cost, but I'd rather pay more for a good one.

Just got my blue one today. Super nice model. Makes me kind 0f think of a Franklin Mint model looking at it. Will look great with my other Navy planes!

If it was rigged I might have been interested.

You already said that three times, we all got the point by now.

Easymodel do some good theme fillers. I`ve got a couple of Mig-15 UTI`s that will probably never make the light of day in die-cast anytime soon. And the Mi-24 Hind`s are pretty well made and finished too.
